$1.5M Goes To Improve Paraprofessional Programs

Agency: Education Dept. (Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services);

Program: Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities--Paraprofessional Pre-service Program Improvement Grants

Eligibility: Institutions of higher education (IHEs);

Funding: $1.5 million for 10 awards;

Deadline: Nov. 3.

Purpose: Paraprofessionals provide important services to children with disabilities ages birth through 21 and their families. These grants seek to improve the quality of existing paraprofessional certificate or associate degree programs at IHEs. Institutions receiving support must enhance or redesign the program curricula so that paraprofessionals are wellprepared to work with children with disabilities and their families. There are two focus areas under this priority, including:

- Improvement of early intervention, early childhood special education and early childhood education paraprofessional preservice programs.

- Improvement of K-12 paraprofessional pre-service programs.
