The European Union-United States Atlantis Program is a grant competition conducted cooperatively by the U.S. Department
of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) and the European Commission’s Directorate
General for Education and Culture (DG EAC). The purpose of this competition is to promote a student-centered,
transatlantic dimension to higher education and training in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines. The
Atlantis Program will fund collaborative efforts to develop programs of study leading to joint or dual undergraduate or
graduate degrees. The program will also fund a small number of policy-oriented grants and one team mobility grants.
ELIGIBILITY: Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) or combinations of IHEs and other public and private nonprofit
institutions and agencies.
FUNDING: $2 million for about 25 awards ranging from $35,000-$108,000 for the first year only. Project period: up to
60 months.

Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education

The program promotes a student-centered, North American dimension to education and training in a wide range of academic
and professional disciplines that complement existing forms of bilateral and trilateral exchange programs among
Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Consortia are funded for four years with the first year of funding dedicated to establishing
consortium agreements or memoranda of understanding among institutions in the participating countries.
ELIGIBILITY: Institutions of Higher Education, Nonprofit Organizations, Consortia of institutions, and other organizations
or agencies.
FUNDING: Total program funding: $300,000. Estimated number of awards: 9-10. The funding period will be for up to
four years.
