Proposal for digging a well: William White, Pump Contractor

The following proposal (including original spelling) was submitted by Mr. White on April 1, 1828.   It is very likely that the well recently discovered in the President's Garden is the well in question.  We have measured the depth of the well and it is 145 feet from the present surface to the present bottom.
