a. Foreign Language Sequence: 6 hours. (Students contemplating graduate work in history are encouraged to take one and, if possible, two languages through the intermediate level.)

b. Introductory history classes: 6 hours. Grade of C required. Choose from:

HIST 1111 Pre-Modern World Civilization 3 hours
HIST 1112 Modern World Civilization 3 hours
HIST 2111 United States to 1877 3 hours
HIST 2112 United States since 1877 3 hours

c. Other social science or introductory history: 6 hours. Choose from:

ANTH 1102 Introductory Anthropology 3 hours
ANTH 2011 Cultural Anthropology 3 hours
CSCI 1200 Introduction to Computers and Programming 3 hours
ECON 1810 Introduction to Economics 3 hours

HIST 1111, HIST 1112, HIST 2111, or HIST 2112 3 hours

4. Major Concentration - (Grade of C or better is required in all major courses) 28 hours

a. HIST 3001 Historical Research Methods, 4 hours

b. Select 24 hours from the offerings on the 3000 and 4000 levels, 24 hours (Please note that there is no difference in the difficulty or general standing of 3000 and 4000 level courses within the history department. The difference is in the type of history covered. Both are junior-senior level courses.)

Concentration of more than three courses in any field of history is discouraged. Graduating majors must submit at least four term papers for an exit interview and take the Major Field Achievement Test in history.

5. Minor Concentration 15-18 hours

6. Electives 10-13 hours

7. Physical Education 5 hours
