Mission

Through a faculty that is committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, service, and professional development, the Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy seeks to offer students a broad array of opportunities to acquire knowledge in order to prepare the students for graduate or professional school and for the world of work. The Department is committed to retention of all qualified students and to service to those students by maintaining a strong, academically sound program.

Purpose

• To encourage faculty to strive for excellence in teaching, service, and professional development
• To offer students a broad array of opportunities for acquiring knowledge in history, anthropology, & philosophy
• To prepare students for graduate or professional school and for the world of work

Vision Statement

Within 5 years the Department intends to:

-implement a major in Anthropology (subject to approval)
-develop an expanded Philosophy program (subject to staffing)
-maintain or increase its current number of History majors (subject to staffing)
-establish global coverage within the History major (subject to staffing)
-improve utilization of assessment results for majors
-establish a new system for assessing student learning in the required U.S. History core courses
