What
is HONORS 3900?
HONORS 3900, Breaking Boundaries are
multi-disciplinary courses that examine a topic or topics from cross-cultural
or cross-disciplinary perspectives. They are usually taught by two
faculty members from different disciplines. If you have wanted
to offer a course that doesn’t fit into a departmental slot,
or if you would enjoy working with some of our most talented and energetic
students in a seminar setting, this is your chance! The course
counts as one 3-credit course in the load of each faculty member.
Sections are open to juniors and seniors in all majors who are members
of the Honors Program or who have an overall university GPA of 3.3.
What is the Honors Program?
The Honors Program allows excellent students
in all majors to complete a sequence of offerings limited to honors-eligible
students, thus earning the designation ASU Honors Program Graduate.
It currently enrolls about 100 students representing almost all majors.
Honors Program students are required to complete five Honors sections
of core courses, two upper division Honors Seminars (i.e. sections
of HONORS 3900), an acceptable Honors thesis (usually in the major
field), and a Capstone. Honors sections are limited to 20 students
and typically involve more discussion, collaboration, and synthesis
than non-honors sections do. Honors classes ask students to explore
course work more actively and intensively, but students are not evaluated
on a more demanding grading scale than in other courses. Students
join the program on the basis of HS GPA and SAT scores, or on the
basis of an overall ASU GPA of 3.4.
How
do I submit a proposal?

James Garvey (Honors Program Director). If you’d
