Honors Program Overview

The Honors Program at Augusta State University was approved by the faculty in 1996. Open to students in every major and discipline, the program enhances the learning experience by offering talented and motivated students the personalized education more typical of a small, much more expensive, liberal arts college. We do this by providing:

1. Sections of core courses specifically designed for able and energetic learners. These courses are taught by faculty members committed to excellence in undergraduate education and are limited to 20 students.

2. Seminars that cross the boundaries of disciplines and/or cultures.

3. A more active learning environment in which students are taught to think critically and improve their writing and speaking skills.

4. Opportunities to engage in undergraduate research by completing a senior thesis.

5. A stimulating way to satisfy general core course requirements.

6. Academic advising and assistance preparing applications for graduate and professional schools, resumes and the senior thesis.

7. Co-curricular activities through the Honors Program Student Association.

The Honors Program seeks to challenge students intellectually, improve their communications skills and help them develop self-confidence. To see how well you might fit our program, you may want to take our self-assessment. The course of study balances breadth and depth. It is not a separate degree program but is designed to augment the course work required for a degree. Successful completion of the program requirements culminates in an Honors Degree, a mark of distinction which lets prospective employers and graduate and professional schools know that the student has maintained a consistent record of excellence.

New faculty or those unfamiliar with our program can get more information here.

The ASU Honors Program is affiliated with the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional Honors Council, and the Georgia Honors Council, making available to interested ASU students a variety of honors opportunities nationwide.

The Honors Program Office is located in Univeristy Hall 331.
