Health InsuranceHealth care in the United States can be very expensive. The U.S. government does not -provide free or subsidized medical care for U.S. citizens in most cases and none for non-U.S. citizens. Therefore, it is extremely important to have adequate health insurance coverage to help cover high medical costs. Health Insurance can be expensive also, but in the long run, is cheaper than high medical costs. Mandatory Insurance Policy The University System of Georgia requires a mandatory health insurance policy for all students holding an F or J visa. The insurance information can be found at www.studentinsurance.com. The cost of the policy will be added to your tuition and must be paid in full at the beginning of each semester. The cost for fall is $379 for undergraduates and $432 for graduate students. The cost for Spring/Summer is $501 for undergraduates and $571 for graduate students. (Coverage for summer is required and must be paid with spring tuition. Coverage is stilll provided if students are outside of the US.) Students with group health insurance or Country programs that are approved by the insurance company, Pearce and Pearce, may apply for a waiver. A list of waivers is available on the website. Students must apply for a waiver and be approved before the tuition charge will be removed from his/her account.
