Getting Started with JagNET Accounts Effective Fall Term 2002

Effective Fall Term 2002, all students will be issued a JagNET account. Students must use the assigned JagNET account whenever they use any computer located on the Augusta State University (ASU) campus and when using a File Transfer Protocol(FTP) from off campus to access the account. Your account will provide:

  • 10MB of network server disk space to save files and provide a Web page. You now have the option for storing files on your network sever space instead of floppy or zip disk. From the labs, drive "Z" is automatically linked to your home directory
  • "Drag and Drop" feature to manage files on the server.
  • Using FTP, access files from off campus (through your Internet Service Provider (ISP))
  • Share files with others using your public folders.
  • Enhanced security. Students will now be responsible for their login and the activity during that logon.

What will change:

  1. Required logon: Students will use their assigned JagNET account whenever they use any computer located on the Augusta State University (ASU) campus and when using a File Transfer Protocol from off campus to access the account.
  2. New URL (Web location): The new URL for JagNET accounts is http://jaguar.aug.edu/<JagNET account username>
  3. If you have an existing Web page at ASU

  • Information Technology Services will transfer all data in your old account to your new account.
  • A new JagNET account username and password will be created. Your old account will no longer be valid.
  • You will need to update all links to point to the new URL. Also, since student email accounts changed Summer 2002, be sure to update any email links in the web page.
  • If your old account was over the 10MB limit, we notified you to bring it down to 10MB or contact Information Technology Services for assistance. If you did not do this, your old information was not transferred to your new account and you will need to see Information Technology Services HelpDesk for assistance.
  • If you had duplicate accounts, then your old information was not transferred to your new account and you need to see Information Technology Services HelpDesk for assistance.

How do I find my new account name and password

To find your account name: Click here to lookup your JagNET Account information.

Activate your Account: To activate your account, logon to any campus computer and change your password when prompted. You MUST activate your account from ONCAMPUS before you can use it off campus.

During Fall Term 2002 until just prior to mid-term, the labs will be setup to use the generic station logons to help you look up your JagNET account. After this time, all students will be required to use their new account to gain access to campus computers.

For More Information . . .

We are pleased to announce, for faculty and staff, a new Information Technology Services On-Line Problem Reporting and Service Request System. You now have the ability to create your own tickets on-line and review the status of tickets you have already submitted to us.

As part of this new service . . .

  • For HelpDesk problems, we now offer 3 ways to report your problems: 1)Phone, 2) In-Person, 3) On the Web. For critical/urgent problems, please continue to use the phone, otherwise for non-critical tickets use the On-Line Service or continue to use the phone. We still want to talk with you, but also offer you choices.

We definitely need your feedback when using this Service. Therefore, if you have problems, questions, comments please call (or email) either Cathy Barner or Rolf Cooke @ x1482.

Here are two items of information you will need to get started.

  1. Your preassigned passcode is welcome (be sure to change this the first time you access the service)
  2. Please read the support document to get started: http://www.aug.edu/its/basic_services/support_center.html
