Maintenance Window: Wednesday night (12/21/05) from 11:00 PM until 3:00 AM Thursday morning (12/22/05) What: OIIT Network Services will be performing fiber maintenance at Medical College of Georgia and the Augusta Qwest POP. Sites Affected: Although a loss of service is not expected, there is the possibility the following sites could be affected during this 4-hour maintenance period:
(From Projects page December 2005) PAWPRINT$ - Printing management system In our continuing efforts to better manage the campus computer labs, IT Services will be implementing a print management system called PAWPRINT$. Under the new system, students will be GIVEN a $50.00 allowance for printing each semester. The cost to print one page on a laser printer will be four ($.04) cents, which means there will be an allowance of 1250 pages per student per semester. This allowance may be adjusted after we get some historical data to give us a better idea of what students need to print in a semester. Currently, the campus spends many thousands of dollars for printing in the labs. Our goal is NOT to charge for printing, but rather to responsibly manage the printing process. This will be a phased-in process starting with the UH131 lab. On Friday, Oct 21, this lab will be closed between 2 PM and 6 PM so we can install the new printing software. If we finish before 6 PM, we will reopen the lab when we finish. Based on how this first phase goes, we will plan to implement the system in a few more general access labs during the semester. After the close of Fall Term, we will install this process in the remainder of the general access campus labs. What will be different? When you go to print a document, a message will popup telling you how many pages you are trying to print and how much the job will cost to print. In addition, you will see your current balance. When you are asked if you want to print the job, you should select YES or NO from the pulldown display window. If you do not select YES within a reasonable amount of time, the print job will automatically cancel and you will not be charged. After the job prints, another message will display telling you that your job has printed and which printer it went to
