INFORMATION FOR Prospective
Students
|
The Student HelpDesk is always available Monday through Friday (normal work days) from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. They can answer most technology questions, solve most technology problems, and act as a first point of contact for information technology assistance. Learning at night? The Student HelpDesk is available most evenings and weekends while classes are in session, subject to the availability of Student Assistants. For exact hours this particular term, visit the ITS Support Center (http://www.aug.edu/its/support_center.html) The telephone number is 706-737-1676 . If you wish to create a written request, visit the ITS support Center at http://www.aug.edu/its/support_center.html or click the "HelpDesk" link on the leftmost column.
To contact the Online Support Center, visit http://help.view.usg.edu The Online Support Center has a knowledge base to answer most questions. If you know what you need, this can be the fastest way to get an answer. If you need assistance from a person, there are three additional options located under the "Support Options" tab. One is a "live chat" area where you can type in your question and a person will answer. A second is the use of a request system, similar to that used by our HelpDesk. The third option is a toll-free number. Because this option is the most costly for the University System, they would prefer that you attempt one of the other methods first.
If you never set a secret question/secret answer pair, you must contact the ASU HelpDesk for assistance with username/password problems.
It is highly recommended that you change your default password and set a secret question/secret answer pair the first time you enter the Vista system. Use the "Change Password" link in the upper blue area to change your password away from the default and also to set your secret pair.
Formal training classes are not normally conducted for students. Feedback has told us that training classes are often not conducive to the tight scheduling of classes, work, and family that control the life of our students. Consequently, we take approach student training with a tutoring-style and and a self-training approach. Tutoring-style: Students experiencing difficulties with using technology for their academic pursuits may walk-in at the Student HelpDesk in University Hall room 130 where Student Assistants will assist with specific needs. Self-training: A large number of training sites exist, primarily offered by the creators of software programs. The training is usually high-quality and, critical for tight schedules, available when the student is available. Most are broken down into specific topics, making it easy to find one that will talk you through the steps you need at the moment. A few training sites are listed on this Training page, but many, many more exist on other Web sites. You can do a Web search for "tutorial" and the name of the program you are trying to use so see links to some of those. Here's one for Microsoft Office's Word 2007 that is found at the Microsoft site.
The HelpDesk is a part of the office of Information Technology Services whose main office is located in University Hall room 127. A member of the University System of Georgia
