The "Help" feature within Vista is context-sensitive and can be your fastest method for questions like "What's this?".
An orientation "course" (informal, self-paced, online) is available. If you would like to see the Vista Orientation course, contact the HelpDesk and ask to be enrolled.
The Student HelpDesk in University Hall room 130 will assist you with most actions, including password resets, name changes, and class enrollments. For "after-hours" assistance, the Online Support Center has a knowledge base/FAQ area, a service text chat and a toll-free number available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Click on the "other Support Options" tab to connect with a person.

Username:
Your user name is your JagNET ID for students; Campus Pipeline user name for faculty/staff. If you do not know what that is, click here to do a search .
Passwords:
Initial password: Date of birth in six digits, month, day year order. CHANGE IT the first time you enter Vista.
Changing your password : Once inside Vista, you will see the link to "Change your password" in the upper right corner, in the blue area. Be sure to set a "secret question" so you can reset your password without contacting the Help Desk.
Resets: If you completed the secret question, you can click the "Forgot your password" link to have the system reset and email your password (uses the ASU email address). If you did not complete a secret question, you will need to contact the HelpDesk.
Need Help? Contact the HelpDesk.
Log in - Connecting Issues:
How do I connect to Vista?: Connect to Vista by entering Campus Pipeline, clicking on the "My Courses" tab, and then the link to Vista. Bookmarking the location is not recommended as the address is likely to change and your bookmark would become out of date.
I can't connect to the Internet: If off campus, call your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If on campus, contact the HelpDesk.
I can cannect to the Internet (Can you see your homepage or go to another site?), but can't get to Campus Pipeline homepage: Contact the HelpDesk.
I can see Campus Pipeline homepage, but can't get logged in: The username for Campus Pipeline and Vista are the same. Passwords are separately maintained; use the Pipeline password (maximum 6 characters), not your network password. If you need assistance with a Campus Pipeline password, contact the HelpDesk.
I clicked on Vista link inside Campus Pipeline, but get error message or nothing happens: Contact the HelpDesk.
The Vista log in page appears, but it won't let me log in: Contact the HelpDesk.
I get into Vista and then nothing happens or the screen freezes: The loading time for the course listing can be somewhat lengthy, especially if you are connecting from a home computer. If it doesn't appear after 2 minutes, follow the remaining instructions. If working on campus in a lab, contact the HelpDesk. If working someplace other than a lab, the browser may need to be updated (see the notes for Home Computers ) or you have pop-ups disabled. Click here for more information about updating your browser.
I get into Vista, but I see a gray box that mentions security: Vista requires the use of special security features. If you click the "ALWAYS" button, the system will remember that you gave it permission and not ask again. Note that there are TWO such boxes that appear almost identical, you can click ALWAYS for each.
I'm inside Vista but I can't see the course I'm looking for: Contact the HelpDesk.
I can see the course and click on it, but I get an error message - something about a template and contacting the section instructor: That course is not currently using the Vista system. Contact your instructor to ask if the course will use Vista later in the term.
I clicked on the name of the course and then it seems to freeze up: If working on campus in a lab, contact the HelpDesk. If working someplace other than a lab, the browser may need to be updated or you may have pop-ups disabled. Visit the Online Support Center for more information about system requirements.
How can I see my grades?: Look on the right-hand side of the gray tool bar located just underneath the blue area. Click on the "My Grades" icon. Tip: If you pause your mouse pointer over each icon, a "tool tip" will appear telling you the name of the icon.
I can't see the "My Grades" icon: The instructor must tell Vista that you have access to see your grades. If you can see the tool bar and other icons but not see the "My Grades" icon, contact your instructor to request that feature be added.
I can see and click on the "My Grades" icon, but I can't see the grade for the quiz/test I took: There are two common reasons for not seeing a grade. One, the instructor has to give Vista permission for the grade to be released. Two, If the instructor has given permission but the grade is still not visible, the instructor must go into Vista and tell Vista to grade the quiz. Tip: Students can help automate the grading by clicking the "View Results" button when they complete a quiz. Quizzes are graded when that button is clicked or when the instructor re-enters the quiz and clicks to grade the quiz. Bottom line: If you can see where the grade should be listed, but can't see a particular grade, contact your instructor. The HelpDesk cannot make grades visible to students.
Browser checker:
(Also see the following note about Java.) A Browser Checker exists on the this site.
Note: Pop-ups and Cookies must be enabled to work with Vista.
Java:
Vista , and many other programs, require a program called Java to operate properly. Java normally comes with your computer's operating system but it has been updated recently. To ensure best operation, follow these steps to install Java on your computer:
- Go to the Java site
- In the upper right corner where it says " Java Software Free Download", click on the "Download Now" link.
- Click on the "Begin Download" button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the Typical installation.
AOL and similar Internet Service Provider (ISP) issues:
Some ISPs experience difficulties when working with Web-based programs like Vista and other course management software. AOL is one of these ISPs. If you suspect you are having problems connecting your off campus computer to work within the Vista system, WebCT and ASU recommend the following steps.
- Logon to AOL using whatever browser your ISP provided.
- Open a Private Chat (This will keep AOL/your ISP from timing you out.) by going to People > Start Your Own Chat > Private Chat > enter any name for the chat > Go Chat
- Minimize AOL (the [ _ ] button NOT the [X])
- Open Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, or other regular browser.
- Enter Vista via Campus Pipeline
Other ISPs may require similar steps. You can also connect to the Online Support Center for additional assistance.
Home routers: If you have more than one computer connected to your Internet connection, you may be using a router. An issue has been identified with some routers. Go to the Web site for the company that makes your router to download and install the latest firmware version for your router.
