Software installations for campus walk-in computer labs and classrooms

To accommodate software installations for computers with diverse hardware settings, it is necessary to improve our planning for the installation times of new and upgraded software.  New software will be installed by Information Technology Services, and in most cases will be distributed to all workstations in the designated walk-in campus labs and electronic classrooms. This plan is designed to substantially improve the reliability rate of our computer equipped classrooms and labs.

Faculty members should submit in writing requests for new lab software or upgrades to existing packages according to the Installation Schedule.  This schedule provides time to discuss your request,  evaluate and review the software,  prepare for the installation, install the application in all requested labs, and collaboratively test the programs.

Installation Schedule:  Software installation requests must be received by mid-term prior to the semester for which you need the software installed . Software and site licenses should be available to Information Technology Services at the time of the request.  If you have not yet purchased the software, you should add (2)two months to the deadline dates.

• General testing for basic functionality and printing is performed on the product by Information Technology Services.  This testing is usually done on our test network.
• Prior to actual lab installation it is the responsibility of the person or department requesting the installation to test that the software functions correctly as intended.
• Once the software is installed in the computer labs, Information Technology Services will again test for general functionality in a full lab setting.  The person or department requesting the software should also participate in testing the software.

• It is freeware or released to the public domain (proof required).
• It is copyrighted, but you have the original diskettes OR the original license agreement.
• It is shareware, and you have registered the software and have the original confirmation of registration.
• It is a current site license product for which Information Technology Services holds the license.

Information Technology Services will hold the licenses or proof of legal use as long as the software is installed on the network.

Final Approval:  Information Technology Services  reserves the right of final approval on any software packages placed on the network.
