How much storage space do I get?

50MB of storage space is allocated to each student to save documents and Web pages. You can save your files here and access them from any computer on campus or from home (via your ISP).

If you run out of space, delete files you no longer need, move files that you are no longer using to a USB drive or burn to a CD. If you still have problems refer to http://www.aug.edu/its for more tips or contact the Help Desk.

Public and Private folders: There are three (3) primary areas in which you can save information. The owner of the account is the only one with modify access to any file.

  • The WWW directory is public and is where your web pages are stored. Anyone can see the information in this area.
  • PRIVATE is a folder which is private - no one except the owner of the account can see or access files in this area.
  • Any files stored in your home root directory are also public and can be seen by anyone.

How do I get to and save my files?

From ON campus to view your entire folder: Login to a campus computer. From the desktop, double click My Computer and select the Z drive (<your User name> on 'Jaguar' (Z:)). All your folders will be displayed and you can drag and drop or copy and paste into the appropriate folder.

  4. Your Z: drive space is now accessible from off-campus.
  5. Drag and drop (Copy and Paste) files between your Z: space and your off-campus computer to easily transfer files back and forth, either from the desktop, opening a folder, or using Windows Explore
IIII. Security & Other Policies

Unauthorized use It is the student's responsibility to guard their account from unauthorized use. When using the account in a computer lab on campus, be sure to log off the computer when you are finished. If you do not log off, then someone else could access and modify your information.

Logoff and Logon It is your responsibility to log off a computer when you have finished using it. This will ensure that no one else is able to access and use your account. It is also your responsibility NEVER to use a computer that has NOT been logged off. If the computer you want to use is logged on, first log it off, then log on with your account.

Automatic Logoff Some of the campus lab computers will have an automatic logoff feature after 20 minutes. Therefore, if you have logged in to a campus lab computer and you do nothing for 20 minutes the computer will be logged off. So be sure to backup your files as you work. This is not a total security answer, but it is a small help.

Backups: Information Technology Services will do daily backups for all data, but students are encouraged to backup any critical data. If any data needs to be recovered, there will be a 24 hour turnaround time .

Non Active Accounts If your account has been disabled or deleted and you need to retrieve data, contact the Information Technology Services HelpDesk. Your data will be copied to CD and available for you to pick up within three (3) working days. You must produce a picture ID when picking up this information.

Deactivated Account : Accounts that are not activated prior to Midterm will be deactivated . To reactivate your account, contact Information Technology Services HelpDesk. Your account will be ready the next business day.

Disabled account: If a student is not enrolled for the current term their account will be disabled. All public information is available to be viewed, but no modifications or additions may be made. It is the student's responsibility to remove all data they want saved prior to their account being disabled. This also is true for students who have graduated.

Deleted account: The account for any student who has not been enrolled for two (2) consecutive terms will be deleted and all associated data will be removed. This also is true for students who have graduated. Data associated with deleted accounts will be stored for 30 days and then deleted.

Policies & Procedures You should review the policies and procedures governing the use of technology resources for Augusta State University. These documents are accessible on the WEB at http://www.aug.edu/its

As a student or graduate assistant A student who is also employed as an employee with ASU may have a separate account for their job responsibilities. This will be determined by the department employing the student. Accounts for job use should NOT be used when accessing a student campus lab or study area computer.
