These include,

- Your Internet Service Provider: Augusta
State University Information
Technology Services is your ISP
provider.
- Network Card Requirement: Your
computer needs an Ethernet network card (10 BaseT or 10/100
BaseT) with an RJ45 connection. An RJ45 connection looks similar
to a regular phone jack except it is larger.
- RESNET Getting Started Packet : You
are provided with a network cable, desktop management tools
(Anti-virus, anti-spyware, popup blocker, and toolbar software),
and instructions.
- Activate network port: The
network port in your room will be activated when you notify
us that you have moved in.
- Contact the ITS Help Desk - 706-737-1482
(Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:30PM) to request your port
activation.
- Your port will be activated within 24 hours.
- Go to the Club House office (or stop by ITS on campus
at University Hall Room 130) and pick up your RESNET
Getting Connected packet.
- Connecting the network cable
- Turn your computer off.
- Plug one end of the network cable into the network port
on your computer.
- Connect the other end to the network jack on the wall.
(The network jack is orange.)
- Turn your computer on.
- Configure Network settings : Configure
your Network Connection settings on your device to obtain
the IP address and DNS server address automatically (using
DHCP services).
- Go
to Control Panel. Select Network Connections.
- Right
click Local
Area Network Connection and select Properties.
- Select
the General Tab. Under "This
connection uses the following items" select TCP/IP
Internet Protocol and click the Properties button.
- Select "Obtain an IP address
automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address
automatically".
- Restart your computer if required.

- Go to System
Preferences and select Network
- Show :Select Built in Ethernet
- ConfigureIP: Select DHCP
- Click Apply Now

- Connect to the Internet: Open your internet
browser. You are now "on the internet".
- Surf the
web.
- Use FTP to access your JagNET account (Refer to the
JagNET brochure or go online at http://www.aug.edu/its
for details on how to find your login name & password). You
MUST authenticate your JagNET account from a lab computer
(on campus or at University Village ) before you can access
your JagNET web folder from your personal computer in your
room.
- Access Campus Pipeline.
- Desktop protection tools: We
strongly recommend that you install McAfee antivirus software,
Google toolbar, and an anti spyware utility. These tools are
available in your packet. Keep these tools up to date as they
will help protect your computer from viruses and other intrusive
programs. Keep your
operating system up to date with critical patches. This is true
for Windows updates and Apple OS updates.

- Insert the CD - Desktop Mgt Tool you received
in your RESNET Getting Connected packet.
- Drag the Desktop Mgt Tool folder to your
desktop.
Keep your virus protection up to date. Your
software should be set to Automatically Update (Auto Update)
everyday. Be sure to check this as new viruses are being discovered
daily.
To install your copy of McAfee Virus protection for
Windows
- Make sure you have a current backup of your data and reboot
your computer.
- Uninstall other virus protection software that may be installed
on your computer.
- Close all applications.
- Open the Desktop Mgt Tools folder.
- Open the McAfee Windows folder and double
click the setup.exe file
- Follow the on screen instructions.
To install your copy of McAfee Virus protection for
Apple OS (Virex)
- Make sure you have a current backup of your data and reboot
your computer.
- Uninstall other virus protection software that may be installed
on your computer.
- Close all applications before you install.
- Open the Desktop Mgt Tools folder.
- Drag the Virex72.gz file to your desktop
and click to expand the folder.
- Click the Virex72.pkg folder to install.
Follow the on screen instructions.
- Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- Open the Desktop Mgt Tools folder.
- Double click the GoogleToolbarInstaller.exe file
- Review the Toolbar Terms of Use, and click "Agree."
- Continue with the remainder of the installation screens.
When the installation completes, the Toolbar should appear
at the top of your Internet Explorer screen.

Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware
of different kinds from your computer. If you see new toolbars
in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install,
if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed
without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even
if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more
and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your
surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that
will be sold to advertisement companies . . . ) {Taken

- Make sure you have a current backup of your data.
- Reboot your computer so you have a "fresh boot".
- Close all applications before you install.
- Open the Desktop Mgt Tools folder.
- Double click the spybotsd14.exe file and
follow the on screen instructions.
