Accessing Your GIL Account

Accessing your GIL account will allow you to view your personal circulation record to see what items you have checked out. It also allows you to renew items. To renew items your account must be in good standing which means no fines, fees or overedue items. Follow these procedures to access your account.
1. From GIL.
2. Select "Access my GIL account" and do the following:
3. Enter your Institution ID number (for example: "927XXXXXX" found on your JagCard) or the entire barcode number that appears on your JagCard.
4. Enter your complete last name.
5. Click logon.

Then scroll down to "Items Checked Out" to see what you have.
If you see an item listed as Charged+, the item has been recalled and needs to be returned by the due date indicated. All borrowers who do not respond to recall requests will have their borrowing privileges suspended and will be charged $1.00 a day in recall fines.

Getting the GALILEO password

The procedure for obtaining your GALILEO password:
1. From GIL.
2. Enter your Institution ID number (for example: "927XXXXXX" found on your JagCard) or the entire barcode number that appears on your JagCard.
3. Enter your complete last name. Click logon.
4. Click on Request button.
5. Click OK to request the GALILEO password.
REMEMBER: After accessing your account use the "Logoff Your Account" button on the lower button bar to exit your account. Also, you can close the web browser to clear your Institution ID number and Last Name.

If you cannot access your GIL account, please contact the Circulation Department to make sure you are correctly entered in our circulation database. Your GALILEO password access may be blocked because you have overdue items, owe fines/fees or, if you are faculty or staff, your patron account may have expired.

Borrowing from other University System of Georgia Libraries

Augusta State University faculty, staff and students may request books online from other University System of Georgia Libraries by using the GIL Express service. You may also go to any University System of Georgia Library to borrow books. You will need to present a valid picture ID, your JagCard is preferred. Borrowers may return their books to any of the University System of Georgia Libraries.

Important. Patrons who use this service need to closely monitor their GIL accounts. Books that are allowed to become overdue will block you from renewing or borrowing any more material.

Recalls

Recalling items through GIL:
If your circulation account is in good standing, you will be able to recall an item that has been checked out to another user. To place a recall:
1. Search for the item in GIL. View the information about the item.
2. Click Request on the top menu. If you have not previously logged on, the Logon screen displays.
3. Enter your Institution ID number or patron barcode and last name in the appropriate fields and click Logon.
4. Click the drop-down menu and select Recall.
5. Click OK.
6. Re-enter your barcode or Institution ID number.
7. Click Submit Request.
8. Logoff your account.

Once you have placed a recall on an item, you can check its status by accessing your GIL Account. With recalls, if you have an item checked out, you will be guaranteed a 28-day checkout before the item is due and fines begin to accrue.

All borrowers, including faculty, who do not respond promptly to recall requests will have their borrowing privileges suspended and will be charged $1.00 a day until the item is returned. If no response comes within 24 days ($24.00) from the due date, the item will be assumed lost and the user will be billed.

Replacement Charges

Library users are responsible for replacement costs and processing fees for lost library items. Promptly report lost items. Library items that are not returned are assumed lost. Unpaid overdue fines and replacement costs will result in a block being placed on your account. Students who have not settled their library accounts will not be permitted to graduate, to re-register, to collect financial aid checks, or to secure a transcript of their records at the University until such accounts are settled.

A repair or replacement fee will be charged for damaged or mutilated items.

Users may replace a lost or damaged item with an item acceptable to the Circulation Manager and/or the Associate Director. Users remain responsible for the $10.00 processing fee.

If an item has been lost and paid for, and is later found, bring the item and payment receipt back to the Circulation Department. Refunds are not granted after 30 days from the receipt of payment.

Fees may be paid by cash, check or JagCard at the Circulation Desk. Reese Library does not accept debit or credit cards.
