Library Student Retention Committee: Dr. Nelson informed the committee that Ginny Loveless had reviewed previous discussions and discussed the possibility of creating a library “family room” with Dan Whitfield, Vice President for Business Operations. Dr. Whitfield checked with the Board of Regents and reported that this was allowable. There was also a discussion of the ASU summer library orientation sessions and library participation. Special Agenda Item: FY07 Serials Renewal-Diane Black: Discussed current serials subscriptions and decided to pick up the cost of the Statesman’s Yearbook. It was decided to revisit the issue of serials subscriptions at the next meeting.

Reference: (Fay Verburg): Fay crafted a new reference policy for community users. Beginning April 10, 2006, community users will be allowed to sign on to the designated reference computers for a single session of up to two hours per day. Community users will be allowed to sign on only once per day. There was also some discussion of the library’s online computer use policy and the need to ensure that the library’s policy is consistent with the ASU campus computer use policy. |

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): 21 classes, totaling 114
students, were taught in March. Camilla B. has enrolled as a “higher
education pioneer” in the group “SOS for Information Literacy in
Higher Education,” a project sponsored by the Center for Digital Literacy
at Syracuse University. This position involves contributing lesson plans and
interacting with other information literacy professionals. |

Special Collections: (John O'Shea) The taping for PBS, which
included an interview with Dr. Cashin, went well. |
|
Technical Services: (Diane Black): No report. |
|
Automation: (Jeff Heck): An ILLiad upgrade was recently completed.
Jeff reported that the “Office to Desktop” program works well.
Jeff will be attending the GALILEO end-user’s conference from April 19-25. |

Outreach Librarian: (Mellie Kerins): Martha Corkrin is working on
the next issue of Reese’s Pieces. Mellie will write the article on the
new staff development process. Employees will be encouraged to attend one of
several workshops chosen by the Inreach Committee and related to their jobs
rather than the “one size fits all” workshops of the past two
years. |

Electronic Serials: (Martha Bryant): Martha indicated that the
Wilson Art full text database only gave us three new titles with full text. |
|
Government Documents: (Joe Schneider): Deborah Tritt will be taken
a partial leave of absence for 10 weeks this summer in order to undertake an
internship with the Digital Library of Georgia in Athens. She may work some
weekend hours at the Reese Library reference desk during the time of the
internship. |

Media Services: (Rose Axton): No report. |

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid ): Camilla R.
indicated that approximately 1100 LIBQUAL surveys have been completed. The
final FY06 Library Unit plan is due May 5. Camilla R. will be at the
“Let’s Talk About It! Jewish Literature” grant workshop in Miami on Tuesday & Wednesday, April 4-5. References are now being checked on the
finalists for two vacant staff positions in circulation. |

Director: (Bill Nelson): Dr. Nelson will be giving a workshop in Oklahoma City, April 26-27. |
