Last Meeting:  Minutes of July 7, 2006 were approved.

Special Agenda Items: There was a discussion of planned activities for the opening of the new Student Center and details to consider as the two buildings plan operations cooperatively. E-mail Dr. Nelson with any questions that arise. There was a Unit Plan discussion. Camilla Reid will distribute an updated summary.

 

Area Reports:

Reference: (Fay Verburg): Fay mentioned the needs of a community patron.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Camilla indicated that the new student orientation groups have continued.  As needed, she has modified her presentations.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea): Automation and Special Collections have been working with Development to provide some photographs of Marie Hulbert. Ms Hulbert was a retired Richmond County teacher who had designated a very significant gift which was made from her estate to Augusta State. The photograph rehousing project is almost complete. With Jeff’s help, a trial database was designed and data entry is underway for part of the photograph collection.

Technical Services: (Diane Black): Acquisitions is awaiting a final materials allocation budget.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): ITS has turned its lab on the 3rd floor over to the Library. Installation of new computer pods is underway. A Docutek ERes update is scheduled for Monday July 24th.

Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): Beth O’Dell’s wedding shower will be Thursday July 20th.
Dr. Nelson’s Library Barbecue will be held on August 3rd.
The 3rd Annual Rape Crisis Fundraiser is currently planned for November 1st.

Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant): Martha was contacted by SCOPUS about training. Since we do not have the SCOPUS database, it was decided not to schedule training at this time. The World Book representatives came and provided an online trial.

Government Documents: (Joe Schneider): Rahil’s last day is Friday July 21. A new student, Isaias, is working in Documents.

Media Services: (Rose Axton): Media Services is working with some technology resources to assist the Art Department.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): Dr. Edward Cashin, Director of the Center for the Study of Georgia History was featured in a PBS program. Dr. Cashin's interview was about the finding of a Scottish Regimental Medallion believed to have been lost in a 1779 campaign in Augusta. “History Detectives” was broadcast on Monday, July 17, at 9 p.m. The filming took place in the Library. We will try to purchase a copy for the library collection.
Remember to wear ASU colors this Friday as requested by the VP for Student Services.
The Phi Kappa Phi office has moved to Room 307 in the Library.
Library Administration is putting together a policy for the new Family Room on the third floor. The Library Student Retention and Success Committee was asked to give input on the first draft. LibQUAL+ comments are being categorized by subject by Andy Bruner, student assistant in Library Administration, so that we can start considering responses to them. The revised Student Guide to Reese Library has gone to the printers and should be ready before fall classes start. Camilla completed Vanderbilt's Peabody Summer Institute for Academic Library Leadership, July 9-13.

Director: (Bill Nelson): The EBSCO serials invoice for $160,000 for FY2007 has been received and paid.

 

Committee Reports:

Miscellaneous: Jeff Heck has had a paper accepted by the International Conference on the Book to be presented in Boston in October.
