Area Reports: |
Reference: (Fay Verburg): There will be NetLibrary training in a few weeks. Fay will be on leave August 4-10th. |
Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Camilla provided library orientation/instruction for the young men visiting campus in July as part of the ASU African-American Male Initiative. On July 28th she attended the Atlanta area Bibliographic Instruction Group meeting at Emory University. The theme was “Collaborate to Innovate! Information Literacy Partnerships Across the Community.” One of Camilla’s initiatives for FY07 will be enhancement of Reese Library’s outreach to local high schools. |
Special Collections: (John O'Shea): This summer there have been a number of visiting researchers in Special Collections from near and far including some local researchers who have not visited Special Collections recently. There has been significant progress with several ongoing projects in the past few weeks. |
Technical Services: (Diane Black): Diane led a discussion on issues relating to placing a few popular magazine titles in the Browsing area in the library foyer. There are a few journals to which the library already subscribes (such as Newsweek, Time and Sports Illustrated) which are candidates for Browsing. A few titles like these will be moved to Browsing and no longer bound. These titles are available in multiple locations in a fulltext online format. Signs will be put in Browsing to direct library users upstairs to the rest of the print journal collection. There are other procedures to be worked out to be discussed later. |
Automation: (Jeff Heck): The new laptop security and recharging cart has arrived and will be in place in the Circulation area. All the library public computers are being upgraded to Version 6 of Deep Freeze. The computer pods in the new mini-labs on the 3rd floor are in place and ready for use. There will be a “call-down” phone available if assistance is needed. The 3rd floor computers’ print options will be reconfigured to allow printing to the Circulation printers, in case there is a problem with the 3rd floor networked printer. The directory floor plans for the 3rd floor will be revised to include the new computer configurations, the Phi Kappa Phi office, the Augusta Richmond County Historical Society, and the new Family Room. ILLiad has been successfully moved to the OCLC servers. |
Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): No report |
Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant): No report |
Government Documents: (Joe Schneider): Joe will be on leave August 9-11. |
Media Services: (Rose Axton): No report |
Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): The academic departments’ library collection allocations have been distributed with little change from last year since there was no increase in the library budget. The new allocation reconfiguration for the reorganized departments in the College of Arts and Sciences was the major change. The Faculty Guide to Library Service flyer is being revised and reprinted. The letters to the local high schools regarding library passes will go out soon. |
Director: (Bill Nelson): Dr. Nelson’s annual BBQ is August 3. The new faculty’s library orientation is August 17 after the New Faculty Breakfast. The library front door will reopen on August 7. Only if needed, the west emergency door will be available for use during the transition time after the Student Activities Center opening. The new administrative assistant in Library Administration will begin work on August 21. |
