Last Meeting:  Minutes of August 16, 2006 were approved with corrections.

Special Agenda Items: Discussion continued on changes to Challenge 3 of the Library Unit Plan.

Area Reports:

Reference: (Fay Verburg): Fay has begun ordering reference books for the collection. She will be updating the atlas collection. Let her know if you have any suggestions for purchase.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): There are currently 52 library instruction classes scheduled for the fall semester. Please respond to Camilla as soon as possible with your list of classes you are willing to teach.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea): John conducted an orientation to Special Collections for Honors 3900.

Technical Services: (Diane Black): There is a new student worker in Technical Services named Ganesh Krubananbh. Current issues of Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Ebony, and Consumer Reports will be displayed in the browsing area on the first floor. Other recent issues will remain in the current display area on the second floor. GIL reflects this change. Technical Services processed the material for the Family Room (books and toys). Diane generated a report from Access showing circulation statistics by LC call number.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): No report.

Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): The dedication of the new student center is September 7. There is an Inreach Committee meeting scheduled for September 5. Discussion will center on plans for the Rape Crisis fund-raising event. Mellie read a note from a library patron concerning employees eating in public service areas. She made a motion to adopt the following policy:  “The consumption of food by library employees in public service areas is not allowed. Drinks in spill-resistant containers will be allowed.”  The motion was seconded and discussion followed. Public service areas would include the circulation desk, the reference desk, the reference library assistant’s desk, the main government document’s office, and the main administrative area. The motion was approved unanimously. Mellie will present the policy to the Inreach Committee as an information item.

Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant): The Blackwell Compass journals trial started and will end November 1. These journals will cost $695 each if purchased. The Crossfire-Beilstein trial ends today. We are negotiating a possible purchase of a 10-user license for $8,000. There are two weeks left for our Ebrary trial.

Government Documents: (Joe Schneider): No report.

Media Services: (Rose Axton): Dr. Nelson reported that Cindy Britt is doing a report comparing the facilities and budget of the Curriculum Center with the national ACRL standards.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): There are 45 participants registered for the “Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature” discussion series. The meeting location will likely change. Camilla thanked John and Fay for their presentations to the Honors 3900 class. Camilla will be presenting a paper to the Rock Eagle University System Annual Computing Conference on October 26. Additional lighting in the browsing area is forthcoming. A banner reading “Reese Library is Student Centered” will be installed over the circulation desk soon. Camilla reminded everyone that revised job descriptions and employee evaluations are due September 1.

Director: (Bill Nelson): Dr. Nelson related the special events planned for the grand opening of the JSAC next week. There was discussion relating to opening the west first floor emergency exit as a public door, as an alternative entrance/exit. Funding has been requested for an additional security monitor and a service agreement on the security gate for the second exit. Security cameras have also been requested.
