Last Meeting:  Minutes of August 21, 2007 were approved.

Special Agenda Items:  There was a short discussion of time sheet procedures.

Area Reports

Reference: (Fay Verburg): The library will be purchasing the Credo Reference database. There was a discussion about the Thomson Gale online resources.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker):  Distribution of Library Instruction classes was discussed.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea):  The program for Georgia Archives month, “Barnes Field: Take a Ferry to Flight,” will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on October 30 in University Hall Room 170. Jillian Rumbaugh was hired as a second student assistant.

Technical Services: (Diane Black):  The barcoding inventory project continues. Carolyn Turner is working with cataloging new orders. Diane is working on cleanup of existing cataloging records.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): EZ Proxy has been upgraded. Bob Trotter will be coming on Tuesday September 18. The URL issue with Government Documents was addressed.

Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): The new Reese’s Pieces will come out during September. The Library’s participation in A Day is 100%. The Family Room Open House will be held Sept. 18. The next “Meet the Author” will be held on September 26 from 1:00-2:30 in University Hall, Room 170.  Cowboy Mike will talk about his new book, Buffalo Soldiers in the West: A Black Soldiers Anthology. The Rape Crisis fundraiser will be held on Wednesday, November 7.

Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant):  Kevin Carroll, the new Proquest representative, will visit the library on Thursday October 4 at 1:00.  Anyone who is interested in meeting with him can come to the conference room that day. Martha has been working with Dave Falke from GALILEO Support Services on the SFX conversion for our local resources. The conversion is progressing and should be complete soon.

Government Documents: (Yadira Payne):  Yadira is orienting herself to Government Documents procedures.

Media Services  (Nick Mims for Rose Axton):  Media Services is evaluating  a video editing program for the Augusta Richmond County Historical Society. ARCHS is working on a program for interviewing World War  II veterans. With Bob Shannon’s retirement, Gordon Spivey is in charge of classroom  services. Nick Mims is working on classroom setups for the Christenberry Field House.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): Carol Waggoner-Angleton has applied for an Institute of Museums and Library Services Connection to Collections Bookshelf grant. There was a discussion of a potential donation of Irish publications. WiFi public access was discussed. Beth O’Dell Ladd resigned her position in Circulation. Circulation is operating with limited personnel until two vacant positions are filled.

Director: (Bill Nelson):  Jim Morris of Proquest mentioned options for dissertations online. Dr. Nelson is this year’s chair of the Student Technology Committee.

Committee Reports: Bill Wells has the library web pages converted and is linking them.

Miscellaneous:  Walt Alexanderson will speak on the Board of Regents policy on security background checks next week at the General Faculty Meeting.
