Last Meeting:  Minutes of  October 24, 2007 approved.

Special Agenda Items:  Assessment for University annual report.

Media Services: (Rose Axton):  no report.

Reference: (Fay Verburg):  Reference is willing to contribute to a subscription to Ferguson’s Career Center Online.  The library will negotiate with the Career Center on costs and/or subsidies.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker):  Six library instruction classes for ASU students have been taught thus far in November. One brief library orientation for high school students was given by Rick Sulzycki.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea):  Reese Library’s exhibit for Georgia Archives Month, “Ferry to Flight,” is now on display at the Woodworth Library at Fort Gordon.

Technical Services: (Diane Black):  Business as usual.  The department is busy with orders, and is also working on a library report for the Mathematics/Computer Science accreditation visit.

Automation: (Jeff Heck):  Zen mp3 players have been received.  Students may check them out for two weeks to listen to e-audiobooks.  ASU has recently developed a new template for university sponsored web pages.  Public Relations has asked that Reese Library use this new template instead of the one we developed ourselves after student focus group input, discussions and reviews.

Outreach Librarian: (Mellie Kerins):  The Georgia Archives Month event on October 30 was well attended, especially by members of the Augusta community.  The Rape Crisis fundraiser was not as monetarily successful as last year’s, despite the abundance of live entertainment.  Will Langford (UGa) brought an exhibit of photographs by Robert Arnett, “India Unveiled,” to Reese Library.  19 of the photographs have been hung; adjustments may have to be made to the lighting.  Fine Arts has been consulted.  Government Documents assisted with the installation.  Mr. Arnett’s lecture will be rescheduled from November 29, as previously scheduled campus events will detract from a presentation that evening.  The lecture will be publicized to the local Indian community.

Electronic Serials: (Martha Bryant):  Patrons have been reporting difficulties with using NetLibrary off campus.  Martha is also working on a report for the Mathematics/Computer Science reaccreditation.

Government Documents: (Yadira Payne):  Government Documents will be looking for a new student worker.  Yadira is working on a workflow schematic for the department, and is still working on the “Let’s Talk About It” grant from ALA.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid ):  An accreditation site visit for the Social Work degree program took place on November 12; the team visited the library for an hour.  Book donations from University of Georgia were brought to campus by Will Langford.  Camilla Reid and Fay Verburg were judges for the Communications & Professional Writing speech contest.  Company representatives were here to talk abut shelving and other storage solutions for reserves.  A fundraiser for the Study Abroad program was held in the library November 9-10.  Additional funding has been allocated to the library to continue painting.

Director: (Bill Nelson):  Georgia Southern University has installed a new automated retrieval system (ARS), which has resulted in their having additional storage space for books.  They are willing to arrange for offsite book storage for USG libraries which may need this service at a very competitive rate.  Dr. Sullivan is looking at FY 2009 continued funding issues for the library.  Dr. Nelson is working on an initial inventory of all purchases made with Student Technology Fee funds.  The Trading Libraries program will continue for at least one more year; there may be some program modifications.

Committee Reports:  Student Technology Fee Committee (B. Nelson)The committee has met, and requests are being reviewed.
IT Committee (J. Heck):  The campus appears to be moving to more and smaller department computer labs, as opposed to large, public labs.  This may affect some equipment replacement schedules.  The committee will evaluate this situation.

Miscellaneous:  Discussion of personnel issues will be a special agenda item at the next meeting, on November 28.
