Last Meeting:  Minutes of November 28, 2007 approved.

Special Agenda Items:  Dr. Barbara Coleman from the Hull College of Business presented the results of her Marketing Research Secret Shopper project for the library.  She gave the library copies of the three best reports.  She noted that the results were very positive.

The librarians convened as a curriculum committee to vote to approve the new course proposal for ILIT 1500, Introduction to Information Literacy.  The proposal was unanimously approved by those present, and we will seek input from those who were absent.

Area Reports:

Media Services: (David Sutherland):  Media Services has installed an audio unit in the art gallery.  They are getting 24 new laptop computers from Student Technology Funding.  Winter maintenance of equipment has begun and will be completed over the break.

Reference: (Fay Verburg): Fay is working on the next regular reference schedule and the spring semester weekend reference schedule.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Eight classes have already been scheduled for the spring semester.  Camilla sent a reminder message to faculty this week.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea—sent via email):  Thanks to the Special Collections student assistants and all who have assisted with coverage while Carol is away.  Camilla was notified on Monday by Kim Gray in the Grants Office that the NEH Grant which Carol had submitted for Preservation Management and Disaster Training has been awarded for $4500.00.

Technical Services: (Diane Black—sent via email): Francine and Diane attended WORKS Payment Manager training on December 4 in University Hall.  The Acquisitions Unit’s deadline for orders for FY2008 was Friday, December 7.  Non-print orders, especially for audio-visual material, are up from previous years.  Carolyn has been very busy cataloging new materials and verifying orders to eliminate any duplicate ordering.  She has had little time to work on weeding the titles selected by Math and Computer Science for deaccessioning.  Dr. Hauke Busch reviewed the serials collection and selected a list of physics and geology titles for withdrawal.  The final decision to withdraw the material from the library serials collection will be made by Library Administration.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): No report.

Outreach Librarian: (Mellie Kerins): The display case next to circulation now has a nice display of Holiday books.  The Library/Media Services Holiday Luncheon will be Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 12:00.  A display has been designed and produced on the 1st floor by Yadira Payne for the campus holiday decorating contest to solicit donations for Child Enrichment.

Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant): We have just turned in the paperwork to order Early English Books Online for a year.  We will review usage statistics next year and decide then if it should be renewed.  We have also submitted the paperwork to purchase NCS Integrated, a business database from Simmons Market Research Bureau at the request of the College of Business.

Government Documents: (Yadira Payne):  Yadira attended the Government Documents meeting at Columbus State University last week.  Miriam will be out this week.  There will soon be two student assistant positions to fill as Jeremiah will be working all of his hours in Media Services.  The Government Documents department has begun shifting of books and materials in the department.  Yadira submitted a photo for the Documents to the People journal.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): The painters will be back Thursday to finish painting the 3rd floor.  Camilla attended P-Card training.  Camilla announced that we will be revisiting the library employee compensation again this year.  She asked everyone to send her information and ideas.  A cabinet from the JSAC breezeway will be moved to the Technical Services department.  A storage solutions vendor has given us a proposal for reserves shelving in the Circulation area.  Circulation is also doing some shifting of books.

Director: (Bill Nelson): Dr. Nelson also attended the P-Card training.

Committee Reports: Dr. Nelson appointed a Government Documents Committee.  Mellie Kerins, Diane Black, Jeff Heck, and Dar Scarff will be the members of this committee.  They will meet and work on a report for where we need to go next with the Government Documents librarian position.

The Inreach Committee approved a mural for the lounge that was available from Physical Plant.

The IT Committee met and heard from Cathy Barner on the number and types of computers on campus.  At its next meeting the committee will be modifying a faculty survey about campus technology created by Jeff.

The Web Committee has been working to retrofit the new library website with the campus template.  A tentative launch date for the new site is early January.
