Last Meeting:  Minutes of February 5, 2008 were approved.

Special Agenda Item:  None

Area Reports:

Media Services (Rose Axton):  No Report

Reference:  Fay Verburg:  Fay asked about the scheduling for the removal of the glass wall that separates the Reference area from the Lobby area.  This is part of a request for additional Library remodeling, including the relocation of the Reference Desk and installation of new Reference and Circulation Desks.  Library administration will seek a separate cost estimate for removal of the wall.  Fay also led a discussion of printing issues and retrieval of prints from the Circulation Desk.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Camilla thanked all those who volunteered to teach library instruction classes in March.  A projected total of 65 classes will be completed by the end of March.  The proposal for ILIT 1500, Introduction to Information Literacy, is on the agenda for approval at the ASU faculty meeting as an “information item,” having received unanimous approval of the Academic Policies Committee.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea): There will be a meeting soon to review the Circuit Rider’s report concerning archival preservation.  An Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant resulted initially in our library receiving a core set of conservation reference books, DVDs, and online resources. Preservation classes, funded by a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant was also awarded to the Library.  That grant makes it possible for several library employees involved with preservation of archival and related materials to participate in training; the training is in progress: three webinar classes and two full-day preservation workshops.

Technical Services: (Diane Black):  Catalog records have been deleted for all of the vinyl LP phonograph records (1,283) sent to surplus from Media Services, with the approval of the Music Department—music CDs have replaced these resources.  With the approval of Hull College of Business de-accessioning of serial titles in business, identified during the shifting of Government Documents, is ongoing.  The annual serials renewal lists are being compiled and will go out to the academic departments next week.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): Jeff attended a SOLINET workshop on Digital Preservation at the Georgia Archives in Atlanta.  The workshop focused on the long-term preservation of “digital objects.” He has also been working with a Library Resources Integration Tools Project group to evaluate what should be added to the next round of changes for GALILEO, including the possible use of a product such as “Zotero.”

Outreach: (Mellie Kerins):  No Report.

Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant): Martha mentioned that the trial of the National Criminal Justice Reference Service is still available.  There was discussion of the possibility of adding H.W. Wilson’s Short Story Index and/or Essay and General Literature Index electronic backfiles which will soon become available.

Government Documents: (Yadira Payne):  Documents is in the process of training one new student (Cristina Hock); another new student will begin next week (Tuttie Ross).  The Circulation department is in the process of moving many documents from the third floor.  A new government documents report calls for a zero-based inventory of core documents, which is underway.  Yadira announced that the “Let’s Talk About It” Jewish Literature grant was awarded by ALA.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): The Best Books collection was reviewed and a number of titles selected for possible addition to the collection.  E-book collections have been purchased for Teacher Education and for Nursing.  The NetLibrary e-book Collection VII has also been ordered from SOLINET.  A staff salary equity and reclassification proposal has been developed and is being finalized for submission to the VPAA.  She asked for assistance in identifying library faculty salary comparative data for use in future submissions. The Library is tentatively scheduled to receive an update of the HVAC system and the lighting during the next 18 months to two years.  Camilla also asked for submissions for the Library mid-semester Unit Plan report.

Director: (Bill Nelson): He reminded everyone that the Faculty Role Model reports from librarians are now due.  He will be attending the RACL meeting on March 6 and 7 here in Augusta.  There was also a reminder that the GIL Users’ Group Meeting is scheduled for May 15, and everyone interested in attending should let Michelle know so that arrangements can be made.
