Last Meeting:  Minutes of February 27, 2008 were approved

Special Agenda Items:  Scheduling for ILIT 1500 was presented by Camilla Baker. Plans are to offer 2 sections of the course in the fall. Several times were suggested. Camilla will check with the Registrar about times which are feasible.

Diane Black presented a proposal for adding Project Muse title links to GIL. It was decided that Diane would work with the project and determine its effectiveness.

 

Area Reports:

Media Services:  Ralph Herndon attended the meeting for Media Services. Ralph reported that Media Services continues to work with the Augusta Richmond County Historical Society World War II oral history interviews. Work with the Sand Hills Workshop is in progress. A webcast of the Basketball Tournament game on Wednesday March 26 from Springfield, Massachusetts is being planned for University Hall, Rm. 170. Planning for graduation is underway. This involves the Civic Center. A new employee, Kristopher Wells, has begun work in Media Services.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker):  See Special Agenda item, above.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea):  Special Collections is currently open on Saturdays, being staffed every Saturday by Carol and Jillian is also working as needed.  A historic postcard display is in the flat display case on the 3rd floor. A display about Georgia trains is outside Special Collections. There will be a display for the Bell Ringer’s 50th anniversary at the opening of the Sand Hills Conference. All of these displays were arranged by Carol with the assistance of other staff.

Carol met with Dr. Debbie Van Tuyll and suggested some ways to present archival materials for her history of journalism class.

Technical Services: (Diane Black):  Letters have been sent to departments regarding renewal of their current subscriptions.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): No report.

Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): Mellie is working with grant co-director Dr. Karen Aubrey, to obtain the display “Pride and Passion: The African-American Baseball Experience”. The latest Reese’s Pieces is being edited.  There is now an exhibit on the second floor gallery that includes photographs of Dachau prison camp taken in 1967 by Army photographer Matthew Aitken. 

Bill Wells’ retirement party will be Monday, March 31st, at 2:00 in the Library conference room. ASU faculty and staff have been invited.

Electronic Resources: (Martha Bryant): Martha has been working on compiling an electronic resources collection development policy. She recently completed a report of the GALILEO statistics through February. She will be attending a GALILEO webinar next Wednesday.

Government Documents: (Yadira Payne):  No report.

 

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid): Evelyn Morales-Torres, a library intern will begin work on Friday. She will be working 10 hours a week as part of her associate in Library Technology degree. Camilla visited Mr. Glover Baillie. He has donated a collection of letters from the Green sisters who lived in Augusta. The mid-semester unit plan was submitted last Friday. Personnel requests went forward. Camilla also gave a report to RACL on our success with staff salary adjustments. Camilla thanked Amy Grigsby for her Phi Kappa Phi assistance. The MPA accreditation committee made favorable comments on library resources. A letter was received from State Sen. Ed Tarver with congratulations for being awarded the IMLS grant for preservation reference resources. The library was well represented at Pig Out. A meeting of Dr. Nelson, Susan Jordan, Carol Waggoner-Angleton, Camilla Reid and John O’Shea was convened to discuss the Circuit Rider report.

Director: (Bill Nelson):  The Library has received material on preparing for the next accreditation report. The Library received the Library Committee report to the Academic Vice President; a copy has been posted on the Library Committee webpage,

Committee Reports:  The Student Technology Committee continues to work with technology requests.

Courseware and Website Library Resource Integration Working Group meeting will be March 26, at which time the final report will be reviewed.

 The next Library Faculty Meeting is Wednesday April 2, 2008 in the Reese Room (note location change).
