Recorder: Loveless Recorder: Loveless
Observer: Blocker Observer: Heck
  Location:  Library Conference RM
Last Meeting: Minutes of the January 5, 2010 meeting were approved as distributed.

Special Agenda Items: (Blocker): Discussion of possible subscription to Science online for $5645, which will include a backfile to 1997. This is separate from our current cost for the print journal, which is $966.42 for this year. Right now, we get access through 2004 from some other vendors. The publisher, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, AAAS, does not really offer any kind of discount if we buy it in a package, so it doesn’t really matter if we purchase through EBSCO or another information vendor. Blocker will find out if the high cost was for the initial start-up to get the backfiles, and if the cost in subsequent years would be that high. After that, we will approach faculty in the sciences and ask if there is any interest in the online version

Area Reports:
Media Service: (Ralph Herndon): Comcast is on the campus converting all the cable boxes to HD ones. The media center is still very busy and all classrooms are up and running. The ASU Film Series starts Monday night, January 25th.

Reference: (Various): Rick Sulzycki and Marshall Abuwi, both Reference Assistants, will be featured in a video spotlight on customer service. Matthew Whittington will produce the video.

Library Instruction:(Camilla Baker): The new classroom scheduling, through Library Administration, is working beautifully.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea): The Robert W. Woodruff Foundation grant to support the Library’s work in rescuing the Pilgrim Life papers has been submitted.

Technical Services: (Various): The annual EBSCO title list has arrived. Oxford University Press had a sale on African American history titles of which we were able to take advantage.

Automation: (Jeff Heck): No report.

Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): For Black History month, the library will host a “Meet the Author” for Florence Ports Brown who will discuss her book, “The Breezy Meadow: A Butterfly's Story”.

Electronic Resources: (LouAnn Blocker): Emerald Journals: Blocker followed up on whether it would be worth getting more information about their packages, which the library had subscribed to in the past. An overlap analysis of one package, Emerald Journals, was performed and found that there are about 85 titles in that package that would be unique to us. Overlap analyses for all the Emerald journal packages will be conducted. Trials: Congressional Research Digital Collection: We received a quote for Feb-Jun 2010 of $1023.17 and $2455.60 for one year, which includes a Lyrasis discount. Yadira Payne and her staff are looking carefully at the product and she will give her opinion at the next meeting. The trials for the Oxford and Facts on File African American history databases will run out soon. Blocker will ask the vendors if the trials can be extended into February during Black History month.

Government Documents: (Yadira Payne): The Government Documents Big Shift should be completed by the end of next week. For Black History month, Government Documents will have a display on the Tuskegee Airmen.

Circulation/Associate Director: (Camilla Reid):
Our EBSCO representative, Jodi Kuehl, will be on-site February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Also on Feb. 3rd, the Library and ITS will co-host a webinar called “Strategic Planning for Library-IT Collaboration”. It will be shown in Room 157 in Media Services at 1:00pm.

There was a significant leak in room 309 over the weekend which has spread to rooms 308 and 307. Physical Plant will be requesting MRR funding to repair the leak.

Director: (Bill Nelson): Dr. Nelson continues to prepare for retirement. He is sharing documents and information with the appropriate personnel. The campus’ retirement party will be in the JSAC ballroom on January 25th from 3:30 pm-5:30 pm.

Committee Reports: (Reid): The Library Committee met on January 20th. They are interested in being involved in the search for the new Library Director as well as finding space within the Library building to house the Pilgrim Life papers.

(Heck): The Georgia Office of Information and Instructional Technology has formed a committee to review possible additional tools to incorporate as part of ongoing GALILEO development. Jeff was invited to participate in the committee, which will meet weekly through the web.
Miscellaneous: None.
