Area Reports:
Media Service: (Ralph Herndon): The mobile faculty presentation carts were upgraded with six new laptops and two new projectors.
Curriculum Center: (Cindy Britt): Cindy is working on a Policies and Procedures Manual for the Curriculum Center.
She is training one new student assistant and waiting for another new student’s paperwork to be completed.
New books are continuing to be ordered.
Reference: (Fay Verburg): Reference continues to function normally.

Special Collections: (John O'Shea): Special Collections personnel met with Maxine Maloney, the new Augusta Genealogical Society President, on September 15.
The Archives Month Program for Reese Library, “Ancient Days in Augusta”, was presented on October 5. Featured speakers were Erick Montgomery, Executive Director of Historic Augusta, and Joseph M. Lee III, author of Augusta: a Postcard History. Rick Davis’ COMD 2250 (Acting I) students performed dramatic readings from a manuscript by Charles G. Benson. The program was well-attended.
Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): Kyle attended a webinar by OCLC on Web-scale management focusing on cloud computing and a new management service they are developing.
Kyle met with Career Services about GOBI and setting up a LibGuide for their department.
Ginny, LouAnn, and Kyle have finished the six interviews for the Acquisitions Specialist position. They hope to make a decision by the end of the week.
Kate Culver has added 95 new books and 10 new DVDs in September.
Kyle set up the free demo of Cataloger’s Desktop and Classification Web. This will continue until about October 21.
Outreach: (Mellie Kerins): The next Library Art Gallery exhibit will be on display by the beginning of next week. It will consist of photographs by Rick Banks, from Atlanta. There will be a special presentation on Thursday, October 21 at 4 p.m. by Mr. Banks sponsored by ASU's Women's Studies department in celebration of Love Your Body Day.
The first floor display case now holds a display of banned/challenged books which Matthew Whittington put up last week, in recognition of Banned Books Week.
The library is the venue for a campus reception October 6, 3pm hosted by Dr. Sullivan's office, recognizing Camilla Reid as Library Director and Jeff Heck as Associate Director.
Electronic Resources/Serials: (LouAnn Blocker): October 14, LouAnn will be presenting a paper at GACOMO titled “Information Overload @your library”. She will also be taking photographs of GLA Awards Winners at the GACOMO banquet.
November 2, LouAnn and Shannon Nix from the Counseling Center will make a presentation titled “This is your brain on too much information” at 2:30 pm in the JSAC Butler Room.
New databases have now been added to their subject and type categories in GALILEO.
Government Information: (Yadira Payne): Student worker, Tristan Nall, has completed a pathfinder on cyberbullying. It will be available October 7.
The Government Printing Office is performing a PURL conversion. During this conversion, some links displayed at Reese Library may not function.
Yadira has reviewed and decided against the Library participating in GPO cataloging since it is still in the beta stage. It was deemed that it may only further exacerbate the current cataloging challenges that Government Information faces. Kyle McCarrell, Jeff Heck, and Yadira are working on a solution to said challenges.
Business Services: (Ginny Loveless): Two library employees, Tina McClarnon and Andy Bruner, attended a CPR, AED, and First Aid training class. Both will receive certifications. There will be another session available for employees in December.
A new display case has been purchased to house the ASU sports shrine. The first floor lobby has been slightly rearranged to highlight the new case. A framed display of ASU NCAA Division I Championship Golf Team memorabilia has been hung above the case.
New departmental signage has been purchased for the library.
Associate Director/Automation/Circulation: (Jeff Heck): Jeff attended the LITA National Forum in Atlanta Oct. 1-3.
Due to problems related to students occupying study rooms without signing up for them, signs reflecting a new policy have been placed on the doors of the rooms. The policy requires students to sign up for any use of the rooms.
Director: (Camilla Reid): The VPAA’s Office is calling for updated credentialing documents from all teaching faculty. Camilla Baker will be credentialed since she is the instructor for ILIT1500.
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness has given all faculty a model curriculum vitae template to use to update CVs for the VPAA’s office files. Camilla will send the template to all library faculty.
The library’s FY2011 Unit Plan will be sent to the VPAA on October 8. Camilla is incorporating the input from the All-Library employee meetings on July 20 and 21, as well as more recent feedback on the mission, vision statements, and goals submitted by all the library departments.
Camilla has been appointed to the new Regents Academic Committee on Libraries Scholarly Communications Committee.
Committee Reports: (Reid): The Library Committee met for the first time this semester on September 28. Angela Bratton from History, Anthropology and Philosophy is the chair; Robert Cromer from Biology is Secretary. At the committee’s request Camilla Reid sent the committee the Reese Library FY10 Unit Plan Final Report and the FY10 Library Committee Assessment of Reese Library.
The Student Technology Fee Committee, chaired by Camilla Reid, will have its first meeting October 8. There were 68 proposals submitted for fiscal year 2010-2011.
(Heck): The Automation Librarian Search Committee has invited three candidates to campus for in-person interviews. The interviews will take place over a three-day span, October 19-21.
Miscellaneous: Georgia COMO is October 13-15. In attendance for the Library will be: LouAnn Blocker, Jeff Heck, Kyle McCarrell, Yadira Payne, Camilla Reid, and Carol Waggoner-Angleton.
