Area Reports:
Media Service: : (Ralph Herndon): The Jaguar History Project, a project to document ASU’s history through interviews with past and present ASU employees, will begin February 10.
Media Services staff has created a guide book for the student scanning stations that were purchased with Student Technology Fee funds.
Curriculum Center: (Cindy Britt): The Curriculum Center had a visit from members of the NCATE committee and it went well. Classes and individual students have been coming in to work on assignments and projects.
Reference: (Fay Verburg): Fay is working on procedures/policies for the Ask a Librarian and Research Consultation request forms that are linked from the library homepage. She will act as the coordinator for all Research Consultation Requests. Other librarians will be asked to assist with consultations. Requests are increasing due to the visibility of the service on the homepage.
The large study tables in the reference area near the stacks have been moved to other floors of the library. Comfortable seating and café style tables now populate the area.
Fay has been appointed to take the place of John O’Shea, Special Collections Librarian, on the Post Tenure Review Committee for History, Anthropology and Philosophy; Political Science; Psychology; Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work; and the Library.
Fay is taking the ALA Editions eLearning course, “Reference through Social Media.” This course meets for three weeks and the facilitator is Sarah Steiner, who spoke at Reese Library’s Staff Development Day.
Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Camilla B. asked that everyone assign themselves March library instruction classes by February 13.
Special Collections: (John O’Shea): The Pilgrim Life collection has been initially reviewed. All boxes have been arranged to facilitate easier maneuverability around the room.
Carol Waggoner-Angleton, Special Collections Assistant, is currently interviewing to fill a vacant student assistant position.
Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): No report.
Automation: (Rod Bustos): A LibGuide has been created to serve as a resource for the ASU/GHSU consolidation. The guide includes links to important BOR resources, relevant articles on other university mergers and information on how to find additional articles. In addition, the guide features RSS feeds of recent articles and links to relevant books in the Reese Library collection.
Outreach:(Various): LouAnn Blocker reported on the new display in the library’s Art Gallery. They are paintings by Cathy Tiller and Margaret Wesley. They will be on display through March 2012.
Camilla R. reported that Matthew Whittington, Outreach Assistant, and Katie Glaeser, Circulation Assistant, have developed QR codes for library services and are placing them around the library. So far, QR codes are being created for the Art Gallery, printing stations, and the bound journals.
Electronic Resources/Serials: : (LouAnn Blocker): The change to the EBSCO interfaces for the Wilson databases on February 1 had no problems. For now, they will retain the Wilson name. EBSCO did give separate URLs for some of the current and retrospective databases that Reese Library had combined, so those databases are now separate on the GALILEO menu. LouAnn will ask EBSCO later about new URLs to recombine these, (not wanting to overwhelm them with requests for changes during their first week of the change.) Any LibGuides or other places where current and retrospective Wilson database titles were listed together must be changed.
There are two trials for February.
