Media Service: (Ralph Herndon): With year-end funding, Classroom Services was awarded a high resolution HD projector for University Hall 170. The room is used for many types of events some of which require the presenting of films and artwork. The projector will greatly upgrade the exposure and the overall experience of the room.
Curriculum Center: (Cindy Britt): Camilla Reid brought Dr. Lucinda Chance, the new dean of the College of Education, to the Curriculum Center June 5 for a tour and to familiarize her with the center and the services offered.
Reference: : (Fay Verburg): On June 5 Marshall Abuwi, evening reference assistant, was given the special honor of delivering the invocation at the opening of the regular meeting of the Augusta/Richmond County Mayoral and Commissioners Meeting (City Council Meeting). He was awarded a plaque with the Mayoral Seal and signed by the Mayor of Augusta. Marshall gave the invocation in his capacity as a volunteer pastor for Fort Gordon's Islamic Community.
Marshall also submitted his proposal to Capella University to gain approval to conduct a study of the best practices for teaching college algebra in the University System of Georgia. This is the final requirement for his Ph. D. in Education degree.
Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Only a few library instruction classes remain on the schedule for summer semester.
Special Collections: (Carol Waggoner-Angleton): A new student assistant has been hired in Special Collections, Tiffany Gregg. She is an ASU graduate student working on a Master in Teaching. She has archives experience from an internship with the Smithsonian in 2008. For the next few semesters, she will be working on inventory of the Don Rhodes Collection.
For the “Saving the Voices from Augusta’s Past” grant, Carol has begun proofing the recently digitized audio files for sound quality.
An Excel spreadsheet has been created to record data received from the Records Survey for the ASU Records Management project.
There is a Memorial/Independence Day display in the Special Collections case.
The LibGuides for Special Collections have been revised.
Carol has contacted the Augusta Genealogy Society (AGS) to gauge their interest in having an electronic resources workshop and special collections information table for the AGS homecoming in August. The homecoming will be held at First Baptist Church, Augusta.

Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): Kyle and Amanda Strever attended a webinar regarding the new interface of the GOBI system where monograph ordering is organized. The newest main feature is faceted searching where one can limit searches to different parameters. When FY13 ordering begins, the Acquisitions department will provide refresher training on the new features of GOBI for the collection development representatives on campus.
Automation: (Rod Bustos): The library’s Voyager clients have been upgraded to version 8.1. The upgrade was more complex than expected by the GIL Service site and initially there were various connectivity issues. However, most issues have been resolved and the system is working smoothly now.
On June 6, Joanna Brailer started an 8-week internship in Reese Library’s Automation department. She is an MLIS student at USC and is looking to gain both systems experience and broader academic library experience.
Augusta Chamber of Commerce maps from the Dr. Bill Bompart collection from 1927-1932 have been digitized and posted.
Outreach:(Johnson): Works by Cyndy Epps and Angelika Selman-Bondar are now featured in the Second Floor Gallery. A press release was submitted to Public Relations and will be distributed to related community publications.
Matthew Whittington, Outreach Assistant, created a three dimensional poster congratulating the ASU athletes on their Peach Belt Conference Presidents’ Academic Award. The poster can now be seen on the Athletics display case in the library lobby.
Special Collections at Reese Library trifold pamphlets received a facelift. The new pamphlets now include photographs from the collection, social media contact information, LibGuide web address, and information related to the digital collection. The pamphlet now meets the requirements set by ASU Public Relations to distribute the material outside the ASU community.
Posters for the “Saving the Voices from Augusta’s Past” lecture series were created and submitted to Public Relations for approval. They will be distributed across ASU, to Paine College, and to the Augusta Public Library. Autumn Johnson met with Maria Darley, Director of Study Abroad, and representatives from Student Activities and International Student Services to discuss plans for International Education Week. The library is committed to creating a display and LibGuide to observe the event. The display will feature a travel theme related to the countries that ASU currently offers study abroad opportunities. Included will be QR codes to relevant eBooks.
Consideration is being given to creating an interactive, in-the-round display so students can interact with display material and so it can be seen from the JSAC breezeway.
Electronic Resources/Serials: (LouAnn Blocker): Melissa Johnson began working in Electronic Resources and Serials as a Library Assistant III on June 4. Melissa is a graduate student in library and information science.
The private diaries of Queen Victoria have been released and are offered by ProQuest, the Bodleian Library, and the Royal Archives. ProQuest has given free access to these diaries through the month of June at www.queenvictoriasjournals.org

(Reid): Camilla R. contacted Hallie Pritchett, the Regional Federal Depository Library Coordinator at the University of Georgia, to let her know Reese Library would be recruiting a new Government Information Librarian/Federal Depository Library Coordinator. The search committee for the new library faculty member in Government Information will be chaired by LouAnn Blocker, Electronic Resources & Serials Librarian. Members will be: Fay Verburg, Peter Shipman (GHSU Library), Miriam Zecharias, Ginny Loveless (administrative liaison), and a faculty member from Political Science.
Ms. Prichett reported that the main and science libraries at the University of Georgia are getting an interior make-over this summer and that the Government Information area, in particular the map section, will be in much better quarters in space vacated by the Special Collections unit which has moved to the new library building built for Special Collections.
(McCarrell): Records for April have been loaded into the library’s catalog. However, due to a problem on Marcive’s end, records for May have not been loaded. Due to other higher tasks, the GIL Service Site has not loaded these records yet, but expects to soon.
(Heck): Jessica Koceja, student assistant in Government Info, will be shifting some of her work time to reducing a backfile of microfiche to be removed from the catalog as part of a weeding project.
A Federal Depository Library Program coordinator must be listed for each site in the program. Jeff Heck, Associate Director of Reese Library, has been named interim coordinator. Jeff worked previously in Government Documents at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Learning Support materials currently on reserve in Media Services are in the process of being weeded prior to their shift to Reese Library Reserves.
Business Services: (Ginny Loveless): A new student assistant security guard has been hired, Demetrius Lowery. He is majoring in Public Administration and Psychology.
With year-end funding, the library was awarded two items: a Janus Display and 295 volumes of Cambridge Histories Online. The Janus system will display current information about events, services, schedules, programs, etc. for the Library and the rest of campus as an extension of the other Janus displays in the JSAC and Bookstore. The Cambridge collection will allow students in the humanities and social sciences access to scholarly monographs to conduct undergraduate and graduate research.
Associate Director/Circulation: (Jeff Heck): Albert Rocha, a recent ASU graduate, has begun a three-week volunteer stint in Circulation and Government Information.
Circulation is exploring options for using Getting It System Toolkit (GIST) to improve the user interface for ILLiad transactions. GIST is a customizable set of tools and workflows that will enhance interlibrary loan and just-in-time acquisitions services; purchase request processing; and cooperative collection development efforts.
Director: (Camilla Reid): Fay Verburg, Maryska Connolly-Brown, and Camilla R. met with Mike Culver (ITS) May 18 regarding the online ASU Biographical Directory project. Decisions were made about the format of the records, the search interface, and record clean-up. With funding from the Jaguar History Project, Maryska will work up to 10 hours per week for several weeks bringing the records up to the standards set.
Library faculty and staff were asked to give Camilla R. input by June 1 on progress made on goals and strategies in the library’s FY12 Unit Plan. She has begun to complete the final unit plan report.
The library has received approval to recruit and fill faculty vacancies for Special Collections and Institutional Archives Librarian and Government Information Librarian/Federal Depository Library Coordinator.
Consolidation Reports: (McCarrell): The process of relabeling nursing items in preparation for the collection’s move in December is continuing. So far this has only involved items that were purchased during the 2011 and 2012 fiscal years. Prior years are expected to be changed in the next few weeks.
(Reid): Camilla R. met with the Media Services staff, the new GHSU Chief Information Officer, and the GHSU Director of Instructional Technology and Research Systems on May 22 about the consolidation in New U of the Media Center, Classroom Services, and Special Events staff, programs, and services with similar GHSU units.
The Library Work Team met on May 30 and June 6. Camilla R. and Jeff Heck attended a meeting with the GHSU Provost, GHSU Vice-Provost, ASU VP for Academic Affairs, and the academic affairs consolidation work team co-leaders on May 25. The Library Work Team Co-Leaders met with Dr. Roman Cibirka on June 1 for a briefing on priority consolidation issues related to the libraries.
(Heck): The Governance Work Team is developing a survey concerning faculty governance.

Many Reese Library employees were involved in planning, set-up, and organization as well as attendance.
