The leadership team voted to cancel the following titles: American Library Directory, Chronicle of Higher Education microfilm, Contemporary Black Biography, New York Review of Books Microfilm, and the daily print edition of the New York Times.

Media Service: (Ralph Herndon): No report.
Curriculum Center: (Cindy Britt): The Curriculum Center has been busy with students in College of Education Block One participating in a scavenger hunt. There have been two evening class tours and orientations. Another class is scheduled to come in next month to work on bulletin board projects.
Reference: (Fay Verburg): We will start using LibAnalytics from Springshare to record reference questions starting on September 1, 2012. A training session for users was held on August 29.
Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): Classes continue to be scheduled for the fall semester.
Special Collections: (Carol Waggoner-Angleton): Maryska Connolly-Brown is the new Special Collections Assistant. Her first project will be to sort documents in the Biographical Directory Project Room for disposal or retention.
Special Collections has been working on their continuity book. Several sections have been reworked, including sections answering reference questions.
A preliminary inventory of the maps and blueprints has begun.
The instruction session for Anna Harris Persona Poetry class went well according to instructor feedback. This served 15 students initially. Special Collections hopes that they will return to work with the material for their assignment.
Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): The VHS weeding project continues, focusing primarily on nursing, education, and learning support materials.
The New Faculty Voucher program for purchasing new materials was considered a success as the library received responses from 14 out of 20 new faculty members.
Paperwork was submitted to hire a new student worker in Acquisitions and Cataloging.
Automation: (Rod Bustos): The migration to the new Bindery server was completed successfully. Although there were some initial glitches, this is now working normally.
Outreach:(Autumn Johnson): Yadira Payne’s “Innately She” exhibit was installed in the second floor gallery and promoted around campus.
A press release and promotional materials for “Augusta’s Viewpoint: Understanding the Civil War” were submitted to Public Relations. The reading and lecture series was promoted collaboratively by Outreach and Special Collections.
Reese Library contributed 100% to the A Day campaign for the 8th year in a row.
Outreach participated in Welcome Week activities including “Whats the Scoop” and the student cookout. The Reese Library information table was featured on WAGT26 newscasts.
Matthew Whittington, Rod Bustos, Owen Angleton, and Autumn Johnson attended a Janus Vizia Software training session. Digital surrogates of Reese Library posters/flyers were created in anticipation of the new Janus Digital sign.
The JSAC Bulletin Board was redone for the new semester.
Electronic Resources/Serials: (LouAnn Blocker): No report.
Government Information: : (Johnson): The 50th Anniversary Committee attended online webinars in preparation for registering voters on National Voter Registration Day including “Voter Registration: Strategy and Legal Issues,” “Voter Registration Planning and Recruitment,” and “Voter Registration Message and Online Tools.”
Autumn Johnson met with Jessica Haskins of ASU Student Activities to discuss incorporating Constitution Day and Voter registration into the 50th anniversary celebration.
Business Services: (Ginny Loveless): No report.
Associate Director/Circulation: (Jeff Heck): One of the library book drops, currently located on the west side of the library, is being moved to the southwest corner of the JSAC, outside of the door. Its current location resulted in little use.
Shelving that held packing materials in Circulation has been removed to make space for the CD cabinets that will be transferred from Media Services. The packing materials were moved into the Circulation Work room on additional existing shelving.
Director: : (Camilla Reid): Camilla Reid regretfully reported that she received a letter of resignation from LouAnn Blocker effective October 12, 2012. LouAnn’s husband has accepted a new position in Washington State.
Greenblatt Library:(Seago): No report.
Consolidation Reports: (Reid): On September 13 a meeting is scheduled with Dr. Roman Cibirka for all employees who work in units that will report to him after the consolidation.
A group from Reese and Greenblatt Libraries are working on a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian grant proposal.
Library faculty were reminded of the meeting on Friday, August 31 at Greenblatt Library for a discussion and vote on the consolidated library faculty assembly bylaws.
(Bustos): The IT subgroup met on August 30 to discuss issues related to the Voyager consolidation and also held discussions on how library software such as ILLiad and EZproxy may be affected. Rod is in contact with OCLC to find out their recommendations for handling an ILLiad merger.
(Johnson): Consolidated Libraries Website Subcommittee: The subcommittee is awaiting approval on a survey from the Library Work Team before it is promoted on both campuses. After the survey is complete, the committee will conduct card-sorting tests with different user groups. Participants will be asked to sort cards bearing labels and titles corresponding to predetermined links and then be asked to group them in a logical way. Participants will also be given the option to create their own labels or groups. Analysis of these activities will be used in website organization and navigation.
Autumn attended “User Experience Design for Web Services” and “Why and How to Do Usability Testing” webinars.
A draft of the libraries’ entry for the New U Student Handbook was submitted to the Library Work Team for review.
(Heck): Library Work Team Governance sub-committee: Jeff made a presentation at the ASU Faculty Meeting to update faculty on the work of the Governance Work Team.
Committee Reports: (Reid): Camilla is continuing to work with the Jaguar History Committee.
Miscellaneous: (Blocker) Camilla Baker and LouAnn Blocker will present at a pecha kucha Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) program titled “Local Scholars: Enhancing Teaching Through Scholarship and Community” September 7 at 4 p.m.
