Last Meeting: Minutes of the August 31 meeting were approved as distributed.

Special Agenda Items:(Blocker): Covering E-Resources & Serials Librarian responsibilities after LouAnn Blocker leaves. Volunteers agreed to cover different duties in the interim.

Discussion of Statistical Abstract subscription. The library leadership team voted to order the online subscription for one year and assess its usefulness at the end of that period.

Area Reports:
Media Service: (Reid): Jeff Mastromonico has been selected as Media Services’ Associate Director of Educational & Collaborative Technology. Gordon Spivey has been selected as Audiovisual Services Manager and will split time between the GHSU and ASU campuses.

Curriculum Center: (Cindy Britt): No report.

Reference: (Fay Verburg): Since our start date on September 1 for using RefAnalytics to record reference transactions, there are over 200 transactions recorded. Rod Bustos, Autumn Johnson, and Fay have formed a LibAnswers Task Force to determine best practices for use of the product. Please send your questions and answers to add to the knowledge base by October 1.

Rick is working on a project to identify multi-volume collections in reference (currently primarily Q, R, and Z call numbers) for possible weeding or transfer to the third floor.

Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): All library instruction classes for September have been assigned.

Special Collections: : (Carol Waggoner-Angleton): Pleased to report that the first Civil War booktalk presentation attracted 20 participants. The book store has assured us that books for the remainder of the series will arrive next week. A notice on the Augusta Viewpoints blog was posted to that effect.

Schedule for Archives Month events is finalized. Flyers will be designed and come out next week after the FDLP celebrations.

Maryska Connolly-Brown is on board as the Special Collections Assistant and already making her mark. Thanks to Maryska, all records retention data, with the exception of one submitting department has been entered into the spreadsheet in preparation for the report.

Thanks to Dr. Harris’ persona poetry class, Dr. Armstrong’s honors English class and an assignment to various reporters at the Bellringer to write on the history of ASU, foot traffic and research appointments are up in Special Collections.

Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): Kyle taught two classes for Master’s-level Education students on APA style.

The music scores are being moved from the Media Center to the 3rd floor stacks. The project is taking longer than expected due to problems with the condition of the music and missing parts for some of the items.

The VHS weeding project continues. The Education faculty kept about 20% of the pulled titles while weeding the rest.

The ordering of new books continues.

Automation: (Rod Bustos): The old Bindery server is currently in the process of being upgraded so it can be repurposed for use as an Archon server for Special Collections. The old HP 4000 printer in Technical Services died recently and is being replaced. ITS is currently configuring the new printer so it can be used on the network.

Outreach:(Autumn Johnson): Autumn contacted Michael Woodie, Partner Operations Lead at Google, and has begun the process of adding library floor plans to Google interior maps.

The outlets for the JANUS digital sign have been installed on the first floor circulation area. The JANUS sign should be operating by next week.

September’s Featured Journal is the Hispanic American Historical Review as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Press Release and promotional materials for the 50th Gov Info event was distributed by public relations and ASU Student Activities.

First floor Outreach display case was changed to commemorate the 50th Gov Info Anniversary.

Augusta’s Viewpoint event was promoted throughout campus and photographed by Matthew Whittington.

Electronic Resources/Serials: (LouAnn Blocker): The EBSCO journal renewal is ready to be sent, except for a couple of titles where there are questions related to consolidation. The order will be placed when those are resolved. Next Thursday, September 20, at 2:30 p.m. in Room 304, there will be a 30-minute demonstration via Webex from Plunkett Research.

Melissa attended webinars on Gale Virtual Reference Library, Opposing Viewpoints In Context, and Biography in Context. She has corrected several hundred records for journals in the catalog with “Internet Resource” as call number. She is still working on the e-resources. She completed original cataloguing of several ASU publications.

Government Information: (Autumn Johnson): In celebration of Reese Library’s FDLP 50th year anniversary, confirmed guests include representatives from the Office of Congressmen Paul Broun and John Barrow; and Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson.

There are new displays on the second floor.

Autumn with ASU Political Science President, Thomas Schumann, and confirmed 4-6 volunteers for voter registration drive. Melissa, Camilla B. Jeff, Miriam, JannMarie, Matthew, Kyle, and Autumn have volunteered to represent the library.

Business Services: (Ginny Loveless): Today is Alex Gil-Casado’s last day with Reese Library. He has been a dependable, hard-working, and diligent student security guard since June of 2010. He is starting a full-time internship with a local company.

Associate Director/Circulation: (Jeff Heck): The music scores are now in the library. We are making sure they are set for our security system and in good shape before shelving. Pick and Scan conversion should take place soon.

Director: (Camilla Reid): Camilla has continued to work with the group preparing an IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian continuing education planning grant. Camilla attended the “Saving Augusta’s Voices” presentation at Paine College Collins-Callaway Library on September 4. On September 6 she attended the Center for Teaching and Learning sponsored presentation by Dr. Christy Price about relating to students. On September 12 Camilla made a presentation on undergraduate libraries as part of the Greenblatt Library Check It Out! staff development program.

Most library employees were able to attend a meeting called by Dr. Roman Cibirka at GHSU on September 13 for all employees who will be in his division when he becomes Vice-Provost of the new university in January 2013.

Greenblatt Library:(Brenda Seago): No report.

Consolidation Reports: (Johnson): Consolidated Libraries Website Subcommittee: Survey was modified with the recommended changes from the LWT. The survey has been sent to Adam Wyatt in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. A script and draft outline of the card-sorting activities has been written and will be sent to the LWT for approval.

Committee Reports: (Reid): Camilla attended the Ceremonies Committee meeting on August 31. Augusta State’s last commencement will be on December 20 at 2 p.m. at the Christenberry Fieldhouse. She attended the Center for Teaching and Learning Steering Committee meeting on August 31. Camilla attended the Phi Kappa Phi Research and Fine Arts Conference Committee meeting on September 4. The Conference will be in the JSAC on March 27, 2013.
