Reference: (Fay Verburg): On September 18, Fay attended the fall meeting of the Augusta Tech Library Advisory group as an alternate for Camilla Reid.

Special Collections: (Carol Waggoner-Angleton): Carol met with Jim Smith, ASU Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator. Jim’s department will be a test case for managing the incoming records from a department to the archives. Library Automation will assist Special Collections in this process.
Carol Waggoner-Angleton met with David King on September 27. He has been formally tasked with enabling special library projects and will be working on finding and writing appropriate grants for the Pilgrim Life and Health Insurance collection. She transferred copies of the background files to him, gave him a tour of the physical collections, gave him a list of this year’s possible grants for Pilgrim, introduced him to Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell (Director of the Center for the Study of Georgia History,) and gave him Kim Gray’s contact details since Special Collections works closely in these instances with the Grants Office.
She also met with Rosemary Fischer from the Clayton State Archives. Carol’s field trip to Clayton State was quite successful. She was able to study Ms. Fischer’s methods for managing workflow when processing University Records. Carol came away with good ideas for connecting with the Alumni to generate more ASU-centered collections. As a result, Carol will be amending the SC policy on realia as it pertains to the University side of collections to allow for collection of artifacts.
Mr. Hugh Connolly has signed a formal deed of gift for both Cumming collections retained by Reese Library since 1983. He asked for clarification documents from Mr. Rowland, which Mr. Rowland signed on October 1, 2012.
Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): Acquisitions and Cataloging hired a student assistant and he will begin work soon.
Kyle attended the Voyager consolidation kick-off with Rod Bustos, Jeff Heck, Sandra Bandy (Greenblatt Library), and Tom Cutshall (Greenblatt Library). More information will be forthcoming regarding what items will be moved and what will not.

Outreach:(Autumn Johnson): Reese Library’s 50th Anniversary celebration as a Federal Depository library was promoted around campus. The event received press from the Augusta Chronicle, Augusta Chronicle: Richmond County Neighbors, WGAC News Radio, and WRDW-TV.
Displays featuring Government Information were created on the first and second floors of Reese Library with assistance from the Government Information department.
The Facebook scavenger hunt had over a dozen winners. The contest increased Reese Library’s following by 15% and the library’s Facebook page had over 3,086 unique visitors from 9/18-9/24.
National Voter Registration Day was celebrated in the JSAC Breezeway. The event was a collaborative effort between Reese Library’s Outreach Department, ASU Office of Student Activities, ASU Political Science Club, and ASU Women Studies Student Association. Volunteers successfully registered over 90 voters in four hours. Kyle McCarrell, Jeff Heck, Camilla Baker, Melissa Johnson, Maryska Connolly-Brown, JannMarie Chandler, Virginia Feher, and Outreach participated. Registration materials are available in reference until the October 9th voter registration deadline.
Constitution Day was celebrated in the JSAC Breezeway and Allgood Hall lawn. The event was a collaborative effort between Reese Library’s Outreach Department, ASU Office of Student Activities, and the ASU Department of Political Science. Marsyka Connolly-Brown, JannMarie Chandler, Matthew Whittington, and Autumn Johnson distributed over 200 copies of the U.S. Constitution.
Caleb Rule, ASU Public Relation’s media specialist, shot video in the library for use in a New U promotional video. Mr. Rule will follow up with additional shots throughout the semester.
Reese Library will be the featured institution in the GLA Spotlight on 11/16/2012.
A promotional flyer for Georgia Archives Month was created and will be circulated around the ASU campus.
Electronic Resources/Serials: (LouAnn Blocker): The American Chemical Society has changed the pricing model for all GALILEO institutions and the library’s cost for the ACS Web Editions (41 titles) has increased to a price that prohibits the library from being able to afford maintaining the subscription. The Content Management sub-committee of the consolidation libraries work team decided that it would be possible to purchase a subscription for both libraries for the ACS Core Pack Plus, which gives the libraries access to 15 titles plus The Journal of Chemical Education. Even with this reduction in content, Reese Library will pay almost twice what was paid in 2012 for the full ACS Web Editions.
Government Information: (Virginia Feher): The 50th anniversary of Reese Library’s Federal Depository Library Program event was a huge success, and Government Information would like to thank all library faculty and staff who were involved for their hard work and support. Hallie Pritchett, Regional Depository Librarian, and Mary Alice Baish, Superintendent of Documents, spoke highly of the event and Reese Library’s Government Information area. In addition, Hallie was highly impressed with the attention to detail, such as the gift baskets awaiting them at the hotel.
The Government Information staff, and Jeff Heck attended the 2012 Georgia Depository Libraries Meeting in Athens, Georgia on September 19, which included several presentations on government information and a working session on the FDLP State Forecast Questionnaire.

The topic was accessibility of free government information and ASU Reese Library’s 50th Anniversary Celebration as a federal depository library.
Brenda Seago, Kathy Davies, Sandra Bandy, David King, and Kim Mears from Greenblatt Library and Camilla Reid, Jeff Heck, Fay Verburg, and Ginny Loveless from Reese Library completed work on the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian continuing education planning grant application. The grant application was submitted on September 24.
Camilla R. participated in a Quality of Life for Students focus group on September 20 led by a consultant looking at a master plan for student services on the GRU Summerville campus.
The library faculty members of both Reese and Greenblatt libraries have been working on a position paper for the Consolidation Promotion and Tenure Work Team related to librarians’ tenure eligibility.
Greenblatt Library:(Brenda Seago): Greenblatt Library received a National Library of Medicine grant.
Consolidation Reports: (Reid): The Library Work Team completed a Status Report on September 21. Katie Glaeser and Maryska Connolly-Brown presented their graduate research methods course proposal relating to library user satisfaction before and after consolidation to the Library Work Team Strategic Planning Sub-Team on September 26.
(Bustos) On September 18, The Voyager project team had its first meeting with the Ex Libris project manager assigned to ASU/GHSU. The team received a high level overview of the database consolidation process, learned about the projected timeline, and had a chance to ask questions. The team must report back to the project manager by Oct 15 with information on which data elements the library is interested in migrating over.
(Heck): Jeff Heck presented an update on the Governance Work Team to the ASU Faculty Meeting September 25. A draft version of the University Senate Bylaws is now in its sixth iteration. The Library Assembly Bylaws have been reviewed by the GWT and have minor amendments before transmission to the Consolidation Action Team.
Committee Reports: (Reid): The Library Committee met September 17 in the Reese Room. The primary agenda for the committee this semester is writing a position paper on the need for maintaining and increasing funding for journals and other resources for faculty and student research and curriculum support after the consolidation. Dr. Christian Poppeliers from Chemistry & Physics is the chair.
Camilla Reid is chairing the Student Technology Fee Committee this year. Ginny Loveless is the administrative support liaison. There are sixty-seven proposals from sixteen campus units. The call for proposals ended September 21. Camilla met with all four deans to discuss the STF process. The committee will begin its deliberations this week.
Since the last meeting, Camilla R. has met with the Phi Kappa Phi Research & Fine Arts Committee and the PKP Initiation Committee which she chairs.
(Bustos) The campus IT committee had its first fall semester meeting September 21. Rick Pukis was elected chair. The committee will operate until the end of the year and then likely be disbanded until a new consolidated committee is put in place.
Committee members provided feedback on Desire2Learn. In general, folks on campus like it better than WebCT. There are some issues with the gradebook component. ASU was part of the first group to go live on D2L so we are the test group for the University System of Georgia.
The new domain name will be gru.edu.
The Student Technology Fees process works differently at GHSU. It is run by the campus IT group. Many students are required to have laptops.
Peoplesoft training will be coming up in November.
Employee passwords will become more complex in the New U.
Miscellaneous: (Johnson): Autumn Johnson will speak at the University of South Carolina’s I-Comm Week October 10. She will be featured in the “Journey to Librarianship” program and will be discussing her experience as an archival student made academic librarian.
