Special Collections: (Maryska Connolly-Brown): Thirty-eight people attended the October 18 Georgia Archives event: “Mapping Memories: From Arsenal to ASU.” Seven people attended as students wishing extra credit. Many thanks to Dr. Trunzo and Dr. Bratton for making this event an extra credit event. Many thanks to Dr. Chris Murphy, our speaker, Owen Angleton, for technical support, and Autumn and Matthew for spearheading the publicity detail. Twenty-five people attended the second Georgia Archives event, “Standing on History” given by local historian Bill Wells on October 19 in the Quad. Three of Dr. Trunzo’s students were in attendance.

The next event is the last talk in the “Saving the Voices of Augusta’s Past” lecture series. Given by Paulette Harris, the lecture is entitled “Biography of Anna T. Jeanes and the Jeanes Supervisor: Second Look” and will take place October 24 at 7:00 p.m. in University Hall Rm. 170.

The last “Augusta’s Viewpoints: Understanding the Civil War” discussion session took place on October 8. Twelve people were in attendance. The next discussion covers Lee Ann White’s “The Civil War as Crisis in Gender: Augusta, Georgia, 1860-1890” and will take place November 12 in the Towers in Washington Hall. Carol Waggoner-Angleton continues to blog about this series to encourage discussion and share information and updates with the participants.

Special Collections will be contributing a guest column to the “What’s New at Reese Library?” blog entitled “What’s New in Special Collections?” The column will appear on Mondays.

The new third floor display outside of Special Collections is entitled “Haunted Augusta: The Spirits and Legends of Augusta’s Past” and features photographs from the collection’s digital photo archive as well as several print resources from the collection.

Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): Terrell Jackson, our new student worker, has begun performing his duties related to barcoding, stamping, and stripping items.

All music scores – including M1-M5 classifications – are now in the library building, having been moved from Media Services last week. Once these are put in reference, we will work to move the CDs over.

Work continues on identifying VHS tapes that can be removed from the collection.

Automation: (Rod Bustos): Automation coordinated with ITS to upgrade the instruction room computers to Windows 7. During the process, ITS discovered that the HP printer used in that room was no longer compatible and they replaced it with an alternate printer they had available. The Dell printer on the 3rd floor has been out of order, but is now working normally after ITS replaced the fuser.
