Media Service: (Ralph Herndon): Work continues on the ASU biographical directory video project.
Curriculum Center: (Cindy Britt): Camilla Reid and Cindy attended a meeting with Dr. Cindi Chance from COE, Dr. Carol Rychly, and others on November 16 to discuss the future site for the Curriculum Center. It was agreed that space on the second floor of University Hall that will be available when nursing moves out would be appropriate.
Reference: (Fay Verburg): Fay met with two students for research consultations. The first meeting of the Reading Circle for Blink was held on November 9. As group leader, Fay is responsible for scheduling meetings and leading the group discussion. Fay attended the retirement reception for Margaret Truitt and Gail Anderson (GHSU) on November 14.
Library Instruction: (Camilla Baker): No report.
Special Collections: (Carol Waggoner-Angleton) Carol and Renee have edited the Joint Heritage Units Collection policy, each individual department collection policy and other policy documents. They will be submitted for review probably by the end of this week. SC will be transferring some materials from Nursing to SC and will do an assessment visit on Wednesday 28 November. SC has offered to host a viewing of the Friends of Georgia History and Archives advocacy webinar on December 6 in 304 at 7 p.m. This is a very informal event. Since the Librarian will be away, the Special Collections Assistant will act as host. If no RSVPs are received by December 5, the viewing will be canceled. There has been a Veterans Day display on the third floor.
Acquisitions/Cataloging: (Kyle McCarrell): Jamie LeGoullion was hired into the Library Assistant II position. She will be splitting her time between Technical Services and Circulation.
The Search Committee for the Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian has completed their activities and given a recommendation to the Library Director.
The compact shelving in Media Services presently housing the VHS and DVD collection will be moved to Technical Services and Circulation the week of Dec. 10. Prior to this move, shelving in Technical Services and Circulation will be removed by Physical Plant (scheduled for the week of Dec. 3). Following this move and the end of the semester, all media will be moving into Reese Library.
Automation: (Rod Bustos): There will be a Voyager upgrade on December 17 from version 8.1 to 8.2.
Outreach:(Autumn Johnson): Reese Library hosted a lunch & learn event titled “Keep Calm and Carry Reese Along” as part of the International Education Week program. There were twelve attendees representing ASU faculty, staff, and students.
The Fall Book Sale at Reese Library is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 29. A volunteer schedule has been distributed to those who have already volunteered.
Outreach participated in the “Browsing Session in the JSAC Breezeway” on Saturday, November 10 hosted by ASU Admissions.
Extended hours for Finals Week begins December 3rd. Finals Frenzy programming will begin December 10. Volunteers will be needed for the “De-Stress Booth” from 11am-2pm and the “Free Snacks Trolley” from 10pm-2am each day. Pet Therapy with the certified Jae-Mar-S therapy dogs is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, December 11 at 2pm, Wednesday, December 12 at 10am, and Friday, December 14, at 2pm. Dog therapy will take place in the JSAC Breezeway. ASU Student activities allotted Reese Library $700 for the purchase of food and give-away items.
Outreach created the Reese Library holiday card this year. The card features selected text from the Charles Dickens holiday classic.
Reese Library is featured in the “Georgia Library Spotlight” on the Georgia Library Association (GLA) website.
Electronic Resources/Serials: (LouAnn Blocker): GHSU subscribes to some Cell Press titles through Elsevier that are of interest to the Biology Department on this campus. We will discuss this after the consolidation.
We cancelled Brepolis Medieval Bibliography through Brepolis Publishers in Belgium. It cost approximately $2700.
We are conducting a trial of Europa World online.
Government Information: (Virginia Feher): Virginia met with Hallie Pritchett, Regional Depository Library Coordinator, and Ann Carey, government documents processer, at the University of Georgia Main Library on Monday, November 19th. Hallie and Ann talked about how UGA processes incoming tangible government documents, including their use of smart bar codes, when they suppress records in GIL (instead of deleting), and how they use macros, as well as how they are conducting an inventory of their collection. Virginia, JannMarie, and Miriam continue to work out details with the new bar coding process. The main issue is the length of time it takes for a record to be downloaded into GIL via Marcive, but they will continue to monitor the process and adjust as needed.

Associate Director/Circulation: (Jeff Heck): Shelving will be disassembled in Circulation work areas December 3. All Reserve and other materials will have to be moved from the shelves prior to that date. The compact shelving (from Media Services) will be moved the week of December 10-14.
The Circulation Department welcomes a new part-time circulation assistant, Brandy Gwinn (replacing Jaime LeGoullion).
There has been implementation of minor changes in Circulation.
Director: (Camilla Reid): Camilla attended the welcome reception for Dr. Cindi Chance, the new dean of the College of Education. She also attended the drop-in for several retiring Physical Plant employees who have served the library over the years.
Camilla R. provided additional information at the request of the local chapter of the AAUP for a resolution supporting the maintenance and growth of library collections supporting current and future academic and research programs for the university. The resolution was presented and endorsed by the majority of faculty present (one dissention) at the general faculty meeting on November 20.
Greenblatt Library: (Brenda Seago): No report.
Consolidation Reports: Many from the Reese Library staff attended the Division Meeting at GHSU on November 12 called by Dr. Roman Cibirka for all employees who will be reporting to his office after the ASU-GHSU consolidation.
(Strategic Planning) An expanded Library Work Team continues to work on the consolidated libraries’ strategic plan. The team met on November 7, 14, and 26. A presentation will be made on December 6 for Dr. Roman Cibirka and the directors who will report to his GRU Augusta Vice Provost office.
(CLWS) The CLWS conducted card-sorting activities on both campuses in order to gain user-feedback about the structure of the proposed University Libraries website. ASU Faculty, staff, and students participated.
The Reese Library website survey ended on Wednesday, November 21. Reese Library received 161 responses from ASU faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students.
(Regalia and Diploma) Work continues on the redesign of the new university diploma and regalia. Fay is a member of the subcommittee for redesign of the diploma. The next meeting of that group will be on December 4. Several mockups of diplomas will be considered at that time by the group.
(Voyager consolidation) Next meeting: November 29 to discuss a detailed migration plan.
Committee Reports: (Student Technology Fee Committee): Reid: Almost all the funding for the approved proposals has been encumbered. There a few with outstanding invoices.
(Library Committee): Information relating to electronic resources and serials has been collected by LouAnn Blocker at the request of the Library Committee for use in its last report to the ASU Vice President for Academic Affairs.
(Advocacy Group for Non-Traditional and Evening Students) Camilla R. made a report on Family Room usage to the committee on November 12. Comparative usage is as follows: Spring 2011 = 326 people, Spring 2012 = 457; Summer 2011 = 121, Summer 2012 = 123; Fall 2011 = 447, Fall 2012 through November 11 = 258.
(The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi) Several PKP members from Reese Library, as members of the Initiation Committee, contributed to the success of the PKP Fall 2012 Initiation Ceremony and Reception on November 16: LouAnn Blocker, Maryska Connolly-Brown, Jeff Heck, Camilla Reid, and Fay Verburg.
(Staff Advisory Council) Loveless: Dr. Carol Rychly, VP Academic Affairs, attended the November 7 meeting as a guest to answer any consolidation related questions brought forth by the Council.
Miscellaneous: Several faculty and staff from Reese Library attended the retirement reception for Gail Anderson and Margaret Truitt at Greenblatt Library on November 14.
Several faculty and staff attended the forums introducing the new time and attendance system (TimeNet) that will be implemented on the Summerville campus post-consolidation. This system will replace what ASU currently uses, ADP.
Many library faculty members attended the University Faculty Meeting on November 20.
On November 8, Ginny L. and Ginny F. attended an employee training session “Managing During Change” presented by Connie Sutton, GHSU’s Interim Director of Workforce Development. This course is intended to enable managers to help their people manage change. The session was beneficial in enhancing skills in managing the human side of change as we transition to consolidated university.
Several faculty and staff from Reese Library attended the A-Day lunch honoring Reese Library and other ASU units which had 100% participation in the annual A Day for ASU fund-raising campaign.
Autumn Johnson and Miriam Zecharias participated in the International Festival hosted by ASU Study Abroad and the Office of Special Programs.
