Policy on Food and Beverages in Reese Library
Vending machine-type snack foods are allowed in Reese Library, except by computers, Reese Room, and Special Collections.
Beverages in approved, spill-resistant containers with securely fastened lids are allowed in Reese Library, except by computers or in Special Collections.
Approved beverage containers include reusable cups with sealable lids, sport bottles, screw top bottles, straw-equipped bottles and concession coffee cups with lids in place, and juice boxes.
Unacceptable beverage containers include Styrofoam, paper, or plastic cups without lids, uncapped bottles,and aluminum cans.
Any spills should be reported immediately to the Circulation Desk (1st floor) so they can be cleaned up quickly to avoid permanent damage. Users are liable for any damage to library property and equipment caused by food or beverages.
Enforcement: All Library staff should inform patrons of this policy when appropriate. Library Security will enforce the policy. Individuals will be asked to consume immediately and/or discard non-allowed items, or to leave the building. If an individual causes a major disturbance or is a flagrant violator, then Library Security may call the Campus Police.
Library Employees may inconspicuously bring food and beverages in non-approved containers to non-public areas. Food waste should be disposed of in covered waste receptacles. Recyclable cans should be rinsed before depositing in recycling bins.
