Our Purpose

The Reference Department provides and promotes information services that support the teaching and learning process. Reference librarians will help you to develop a search strategy for research papers and assignments; find answers to specific questions; use the library’s print and electronic resources; locate books and other library materials; find authoritative information on the Internet; and understand library services and policies.
The reference room houses non-circulating print material such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, atlases, statistical sources, and bibliographies on general and specific subjects. There are also eight computer workstations and one scanning workstation available to access the library’s electronic resources.

Research Assistance.

If you are not on campus, but would like to discuss a research question with a librarian, you can call the Reference Department at (706) 737-1748 or use the department’s Ask a Librarian service. This service allows members of the Augusta State University community to email questions to our staff. For more in-depth, one-on-one research help, make an appointment for a research consultation with a reference librarian.

Community Use Policy.

Reese Library provides access to government documents and other research resources over the Internet to members of the community. To log in, community members must register in the sign-in notebook kept at the reference desk and present a valid photo ID. The Reference Librarian on duty then logs the user on to one of the eight computers in the Reference room. Computers outside of the Reference room are not available for community members.
