Distance Learning Committee Minutes
April 29, 1999

Rose Axton, Guy Bass, Steve Duckworth, Mark Fissel, Bill Gray, Paulette Harris, Ralph Herndon, Carol Rychly, Karen Sisk

Ralph called the meeting to order. Atter distributing the meeting agenda Ralph gave a brief overview of distance learning and introduced Bill Gray for an update on GSAMS at ASU.

Bill reported that recent use of the GSAMS rooms have included ASU faculty members, the State Merit System, the Georgia Department of Revenue, and the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates. Dr Jarman is currently receiving a weekly "Java Programming" course from Georgia Tech. This fall Dr. Hanis, Dr. Jackson, and Dr. Forbus will be using the GSAMS classroom.

Mark opened a discussion on how distance learning should be approached at ASU. He believes That ASU sliould use technology to supplement traditioilal courses. Examples given were the use oWebCT or Intracal to create online study guides that students could access from home. Mark also gave a brief overview ofthe Training Triad.

Ralph read a few key points from the SACs notes and started the discussion of guidelines for a mission statement for Distance Learning. It was decided that a subcommittee should be formed to came up with a Distance Learning mission statement that is in compliance with the ASU mission statement. The members of the subcommittee are: Mark Fissel, Bill Forbus, Bill Gray, and Karen Sisk.
