Program of Study

The ASU MPA Program is specifically geared to prepare students for today's workplace. The program requires 36 hours of coursework. Typically, students who work full-time take 2 ½ to 3 years to complete the program while going to school part-time (3-6 credit hours per semester). Students who wish to go full-time (9 credit hours per semester) can complete the program comfortably in two years.

All courses are taught in the evenings or on weekends to accommodate the busy life of a working professional. Evening classes in the Fall and Spring semester are taught one night a week, beginning at 6 PM. During the Summer term, evening classes are taught on two nights a week, beginning at 6 PM.

The MPA Program has two specialized tracks. One is in Human Services Administration . The HSA track is designed to prepare students for the challenges of working in agencies involved in providing human services to the community. Such agencies face unique challenges including mixed funding streams, board structures, dependence on volunteers, and infrequent planning.

Our second track is in Homeland Security. This new track in the Augusta State University Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program is specifically geared to prepare students for the challenge of preparing our nation and our community for disasters resulting from terrorism, accidents or natural causes. The program specifically seeks to educate students about

  • The national security strategy process, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Response Plan.
  • How communities prepare, respond, and recover from disasters (natural or man-made).
  • Unconventional threats our nation faces, particularly terrorism.
