Program of Study ASU's MPA program is specifically geared to offer students the real world skills needed for success in today's workplace. The program requires 36 hours of coursework. Students who work full-time typically take 2 ½ to 3 years to complete the program while going to school part-time. Students who wish to go full-time (9 hours credit hours per semester) can complete the program comfortably in two years. Our courses are taught in the evenings or on weekends to accommodate the busy life of a working professional. Evening classes in the fall and spring semesters are taught one night per week, beginning at 6PM. During the summer term, evening classes are taught two nights a week, beginning at 6PM. In addition to the general degree, our MPA program offers two specialized tracks. The first, our Human Services Administration track, prepares students for the challenges of working in agencies providing human services to the community. The second, our Homeland Security track, is geared to prepare students for the challenge of preparing our nation and our community for disasters resulting from terrorism, accidents or natural causes. Students pursuing the general degree 25 hours of core (required courses) 9 hours of electives Capstone course Students who lack work experience in public or nonprofit agencies will be required to take a 3-hour internship course and 6 hours of electives instead of 9 hours of electives. Students pursuing the human services administration track 28 hours of core (required courses) 6 hours of electives Capstone course Students who lack work experience in public or nonprofit agencies will be required to take a 3-hour internship course and 3 hours of electives instead of 6 hours of electives. Students pursuing the homeland security track 31 hours of core (required courses) 3 hours of electives Capstone course Students who lack work experience in public or nonprofit agencies will be required to take a 3-hour internship course and no electives.
