Associate Professor of Music, directs the jazz ensembles and teaches studio woodwinds. In addition, he teaches advanced music theory and humanities courses, and has developed and taught new courses in jazz improvisation and music technology. Dr. Foster is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, where he received a Doctor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition. He holds a Master of Music degree in flute performance from Wayne State University (Michigan), and a Bachelor of Music degree in jazz studies from Oakland University (Michigan).
An accomplished performer on various woodwind instruments, Dr. Foster has performed with many world renowned musicians and entertainers, including Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, James Newton, Charlie Haden, Art Lande, John Denver, Mitch Ryder, the Temptations, The Four Tops, and Bob Hope. He is a published composer, and has been the recipient of granted funding for musical compositions in dance and theater productions. Since moving to Augusta, Mr. Foster has performed frequently with his own jazz quartet, as well as the Augusta Jazz Project, the Augusta Symphony, the Augusta Concert Band, the Don Macey Quartet, and the Bud Hudson Jazz Explosion.
