Post-Bach Applicants
for admission to the nursing program will be expected to meet the following
requirements:
- Unrestricted
admission into ASU with evaluation of all transcripts.
- Interview
with assigned ASU nursing advisor.
- Must
have an adjusted Nursing Grade Point Average (NGPA) of at least 2.5 at the
time of application. The Nursing
GPA is computed from grades of core courses required for the nursing
program using the most recent attempt of a repeated course. An applicant may have no more than one
repeat of each core course required for the nursing program. Students with ASU records must have an
institutional GPA of 2.5.
- If a
transfer student, courses transferred for nursing core must meet nursing
GPA requirements of 2.5 and transfer GPA must be at least 2.5.
- A
student must submit an application for admission to the Department of
Nursing by October 31 for the spring semester of the same academic year
and by February 1 for the fall semester of the next academic year. (An academic year is defined as August
of one year to May of the next year.)
- All
core courses must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to application to the
nursing program.
- Completion
of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) above the decision score.
- The
selection of applicants will be based on a ranked score of the adjusted
NGPA, a weighted score based on the completed core courses, and the net
results.
- Students
are admitted into the nursing program upon the recommendation of the
nursing faculty and with the approval of the department chair. Background checks are required for all
students accepted into the nursing program. Students are subject to random drug
screenings throughout the program.
- The
decisions to admit transfer students from other nursing programs will be made on a case by case
basis. Because achievement of a
grade of C or better in each nursing course (including nursing courses
transferred into Augusta State University from other nursing programs) is
necessary for successful program completion and because a nursing course
may be repeated only once. Students who have two or more recorded grades
lower than C in nursing courses from their previous nursing program(s)
will not be considered for admission into the ASU Nursing program.
- Post-Bach
students are only required to complete Core Areas D and F prior to
beginning the nursing sequence.
Core Area D includes: Survey
of Chemistry I (CHEM 1151); Survey of Chemistry II (CHEM 1152), or
Principles of Chemistry I (CHEM 1211) and Principles of Chemistry II (CHEM
1212) and Statistics (MATH 2210) and Core Area F includes: Human Growth and Development (PSYC
2103); Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOL 2111); Anatomy and Physiology II
(BIOL 2112);; Microbiology (BIOL 2500), and Introduction to Global Issues
(POLS 2401) or Social and Cultural Diversity (SOCI 2241), or Basic
Economics (ECON 1810) or Introduction to Anthropology (ANTH 1102).
