Department of Nursing
Admission Criteria:
Pre-licensure (Basic) BSN Track Admission Criteria:
1. Unrestricted Admission into ASU with evaluation of all transcripts
2. Interview with assigned ASU Nursing advisor
3. Submit Nursing Application to the nursing program
4. Minimum Institutional GPA of 2.5
5. If transfer student, minimum transfer GPA of 2.5
6. Minimum Nursing GPA of 2.5*
7. Completion of all core courses
8. Minimum grade of "C" in all core courses
9. Each core course may be repeated only once
10. No more than one unsuccessful attempt to successfully complete any professional nursing degree program, including associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs.
11. Completion of the TEAS exam above decision score
12. Criminal background checks are required of all students accepted into the nursing program.
13. Drug Screens are required of all students accepted into the nursing program.
14. Students are admitted into the BSN program based on a selection process, faculty recommendation, space availability, and approval of department chair.
*The Nursing GPA is computed from grades of core courses required for the nursing program. If a course is taken more than once the average of the 2 grades will be used.
LPN to BSN Track Admission Criteria:
1. Unrestricted Admission into ASU with evaluation of all transcripts
2. Interview with assigned ASU Nursing advisor
3. Document Proof of valid and unrestricted GA LPN license
4. Application to the nursing program (if qualified)
5. Minimum Institutional GPA of 2.5
6. If transfer student, minimum transfer GPA of 2.5
7. Minimum Nursing GPA of 2.5*
8. Completion of all core courses
9. Minimum grade of "C" in all core courses
10. Each core course may be repeated only once
11. No more than one unsuccessful attempt to successfully complete any professional nursing degree program, including associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs.
12. Completion of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) above the decision score.
13. Criminal background checks are required of all students accepted into the nursing program.
14. Students are admitted into the LPN to BSN program based on a selection process, faculty recommendation, space availability, and approval of department chair.
*The Nursing GPA is computed from grades of core courses required for the nursing program. If a course is taken more than once the average of the 2 grades will be used.
RN to BSN Program Admission Criteria:
1. Unrestricted Admission into ASU with evaluation of all transcripts
2. Meet with assigned ASU Nursing advisor
3. Document Proof of valid and unrestricted GA RN license
4. Submit Nursing Application to the nursing program
5. Minimum Institutional GPA of 2.5
6. If transfer student, minimum transfer GPA of 2.5
7. Minimum Nursing GPA of 2.5
8. Completion of the following prerequisite courses with minimum grade of C: English Composition I (ENG 1101); English Composition II (ENG 1102); College Algebra (MATH 1111), Statistics (MATH 2210), Human Growth and Development (PSYC 2103); Anatomy and Physiology I ( BIOL 2111); Anatomy and Physiology II (BIOL 21120; Microbiology (BIOL 2500), Human Growth and Development, (PSYC 2103), Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1101) and/or Introduction to Sociology (SOC 1101), Survey of Chemistry I (CHEM 1151) ; Survey of Chemistry II (1152) , or Principles of Chemistry I (CHEM 1211) and Principle of Chemistry II (1212).
9. Completion of all remaining core course requirements with minimum grade requirements.
