Alberta Graham selected Physical Plant Employee of the Fourth Quarter

Graham receives Staff Excellence Award for Spring Semester

Ms. Alberta Graham, a custodian in the physical plant, has been awarded the ASU Staff Excellence Award for Spring Semester. Ms. Graham has been working at the university for almost 28 years.

She was nominated for the award because of her superior performance as acting building services supervisor for the past three months. In that position, Ms. Graham is responsible for managing more than 35 employees and the cleaning of 950,000 square feet of buildings.

"Alberta always projects a positive image and is sensitive to the needs of students and faculty when she is assisting them," says Mr. Dave Freeman, assistant director of the physical plant. "She never identifies a problem without coming up with a solution first, and she maintains a can-do attitude when last minute assignments or changes occur."

Staff Spotlight: Delon Hampton

Delon HamptonPeople at ASU recognize Delon Hampton as a friendly face on the Physical Plant staff. As a supervisor for the custodial staff, he always has a smile and a warm hello for everyone. But there's a side of Mr. Hampton that most people on campus don't know about-the side that's a budding journalist.

More than six years ago Mr. Hampton was working for the Board of Education in a similar position, but when he heard about an opening at ASU, he knew he had to make a change.

"I came here because I knew that employees could take classes," he says. "I wanted an opportunity to provide myself with a better education."

Though his busy schedule has kept him from the classroom since then, Mr. Hampton says that he has plans to begin classes soon.

"I'm really interested in journalism," he says. "I studied that a little in high school and got to work on the newspaper staff." Time spent working at The Augusta Chronicle and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also inspired his love for the field.

Outside of work, Mr. Hampton enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and a new addition to the family-a three-week old grandson. When he's not spending time with his family, he can be found on a basketball court somewhere.

"That's one of the things I really enjoy doing," he says.

The native Augustan doesn't, however, have plans of leaving ASU for the basketball court anytime soon.

"I'm really dedicated to this university," Mr. Hampton says. "I really love this campus."
