Campus Pipeline
at Augusta State University

Campus Pipeline is a web based communications tool
that provides a number of features and functions:

Email

Campus Pipeline will store your email messages on a server that you can reach from anywhere that you can get to the Internet - from across the nation or the world, from home, from a classroom or lab, or from any office. If you can connect to the Internet, you can get to your mail and your mail folders.

Students will have 20Mb of storage space. That is many times as more than most free services, like Yahoo and Hotmail, allow.

Reduced email load
Because Campus Pipeline is primarily a communications tool that recognizes the need for the University to communicate information to students, faculty and staff, it uses a series of Web pages to organize and present information. This reduces the amount of email that each person needs to sort through.

Calendaring

The calendar feature allows you to put your schedule on the Campus Pipeline system and then access it from anywhere that has Internet access. No special software is needed. The calendar will allow for repetitive appointments or (no specific time) events, as well as viewing in day, week, month, year formats.

This is also a communications feature because it is possible to create an event and "invite" someone to the event. When you put their name on the invitation list, the system will check to see if the person is busy during the time listed. It will not say why the person is busy, only that an item exists in the person's calendar for that time period. When you finish with all the settings, the invitation is sent. You can also "inform" someone that the event will take place.

You can have multiple calendars. You can have a calendar for each course on which important class dates are noted. You can track schedules for student assistants.

You can share calendars. For example, one academic calendar could be created with all official academic dates. Changes made once to that calendar would be reflected in everyone's copy of that calendar. Departmental chairs and secretaries can share a calendar. Organizations or committees can share a calendar with meeting information.

Classroom Tools

Faculty and students can see course-related communication tools, such as class bulletin boards, class chat rooms with whiteboards, and an easy way to send an email message to one or many members of the class. Rosters are created directly from Banner. When a student registers they are automatically added to the listing of students. When a student drops a class, they are automatically dropped from access to the course information and lists.

Targeted Announcements

These are announcements that have been sent to you based upon your role on campus, such as faculty, staff, student, administrator, etc., your major, or because you are associated with a particular course or series of courses. That gives the sender the ability to filter the recipients; for example, students would not need to see information about faculty and staff retirement seminars.

Campus-wide Announcements

Throughout the Campus Pipeline system you will find links to campus happenings. Click on the listing to find out more information about that event or reminder. Information is organized into general ("My Pipeline"), academic ("My Courses"), services-related ("School Services"), and non-academic, non-services ("Campus Life") information categories.
