AROC Project Success

Augusta-Richmond County Opportunities, Inc. (AROC) began in 1992 as a non-profit organization.  The purpose is to provide activities which are charitable, scientific, and educational.

The AROC will strive to:

reduce the drop-out rate

enable the students to complete their education

provide career and job counseling

enable students to become productive and contributing members of society

With the purpose in mind, AROC introduced Project Success.  The initial effort was a pilot project in the summer of 1993 that identified 24 students from the Youth Development Center (YDC).  An intensive six-week program transitioned students from the YDC back into the community and the school system.

In 1994, Project Success became associated with the Georgia Chapter of the nationally acclaimed Cities in School (CIS) Program.  In operation for more than a decade, CIS is national non-partisan, non-profit organization devoted to dropout prevention.

Through association with CIS, the AROC partnered with the Richmond County Public Schools to provide a year-round alternative school program.  A three year program was designed to serve 40 students who were referred by a tribunal following disciplinary problems at their existing schools.

The program provides instruction Monday through Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Business Technology Center on Laney-Walker Boulevard.

Weekend activities are also available.
Activities include:

extended instruction

tutorial and remedial instruction

assistance with summer employment scholarship assistance for those who complete the program and pursue additional education at college or technical schools.
