Department of Psychology

Congratulations
to our outstanding 2008-2009 students!

Heather Anderson
Outstanding Graduate Student

The 2008-2009 Outstanding Graduate Student Award was presented to Heather Anderson. The recipient of this award is chosen based on various accomplishments, which include exceptional academic performance, involvement in research, taking an active role in the program, community involvement, and great potential for the future. Heather has excelled in each area. She and a classmate worked together on a project titled "Media Exposure and Perceptions of Rape Myths" which won the graduate research award and will be presented at the 2009 SEPA conference in New Orleans , LA. "Get involved in research to find out what you're interested in, and to learn about the research process," suggests Heather. Heather is also an active member of Psi Chi as the Public Relations officer as well as a committee member for the Bert Yancey Tournament. After graduation, Heather plans to apply for PhD programs in Cognitive psychology and continue conducting research.

M. David Boykin
Outstanding Undergraduate Student

David Boykin is the recipient of the 2008-2009 Outstanding Senior Psychology Award. To receive this award, David needed at least a 3.0 GPA, to be actively involved in research, and to participate in an extracurricular activity (Psi Chi Vice President).

"I was deeply honored and proud to receive this award. It makes me happy to know that the psychology department recognizes how hard I worked this past year," says David. He plans to continue his successful academic career by attending a graduate program for Industrial/Organizational Psychology next fall.
