General Information
Members of the faculty are expected to maintain an active and productive program of research that involves students, to serve as advisor to graduate and undergraduate students, to participate in departmental, university, and community service, and to maintain cooperative relationships with faculty, staff, and students. Candidates should provide evidence of interest in and experience with directing student research.
With a growing enrollment, the university has undergone major renovations with state-of-the-art classrooms and lab facilities. The Psychology Department - in the Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts & Sciences - consists of a highly collegial group of eleven full-time and approximately twelve adjunct faculty members as well as two staff members. We serve approximately 300 undergraduate psychology majors and 40 graduate students. The department has an established master's program with a MPAC-accredited clinical track, a thesis experimental track, and an applied experimental track.
Augusta is the state's second largest metropolitan area and is within easy driving distance of Atlanta, the mountains and coastal beaches. The area provides affordable housing options and is well-known for golf. The city is home to the Medical College of Georgia (including the Georgia Prevention Institute), Fort Gordon, a regional state mental hospital, Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, and a VA facility with both general medical and psychiatric campuses. The psychology department has professional relationships with these sites, facilitating collaborative research and internship placement for students. Augusta State University: Psychology Department Chair
Augusta State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair, beginning academic year 2013-14. Augusta State University is in a period of transition from a teaching- oriented state university to a research comprehensive university. In January 2013 the university will merge with Georgia Health Sciences University to become Georgia Regents University. Candidates for chair must have a Ph.D. in psychology and be at an associate or full professor rank. Previous leadership/administrative experience is highly desirable as is a strong record of teaching and scholarship. A successful candidate will be able to develop a vision for growth in academic programs (including a doctoral program), work closely with the faculty to promote excellence in teaching, research, and service, facilitate faculty efforts at seeking external grant support, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and supervise the allocation of physical, budgetary, and support staff resources. Area of specialization is open.

All academic departments at Augusta State University are housed in relatively new buildings. The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Science and Mathematics. Our facilities can serve in a clinic capacity, with space for therapy, assessment, and observation. In addition, we have several labs, including human and animal research labs. The department consists of a collegial group of eleven full-time and approximately fourteen adjunct faculty members, two staff members, and over a dozen graduate assistants. We serve approximately 300 undergraduate psychology majors and 40 graduate students.
