Augusta State University’s Fall Film Series will introduce four new films in October. The first film, Red Lights, will be featured on Monday, October 3. In the tradition of Alfred Hitchcock, this thriller follows a man on his way to a family event as he finds himself in a mysterious maze of trouble. If you enjoyed television’s Dancing with the Stars, you will love Mad Hot Ballroom, a funny and touching documentary about a competition between several New York City schools to find the best ballroom dancers and win the championship for their school. This year’s Academy Award winner for Best Documentary, Born into Brothels, presents an insightful portrait of the harsh and unique world of children born to prostitutes in Calcutta’s red-light district. This film will debut Monday, October 17. On Monday, October 24, Murderball, an entertaining and gripping documentary, will provide an inspirational end to the fall series. The film proves that being confined to a wheelchair doesn’t mean the fun has to end. The New York Times says, “[Murderball] is in perfect sync with the survival-of-the-fittest values of the times…The sickness of the soul is only for losers, and no one wants to lose.” The Fall Film Series is funded by student activities fees and is directed by Mr. Stevan Clements, Cree-Walker Distinguished Professor of Communications. All films begin at 7 p.m. in 170 University Hall. Admission is free. For more information, contact the Office of Student Activities at 737-1609.
