New Healthcare Link
A new website to link Georgians with healthcare information will launch June 2: Georgia Health-Go Local www.gahealthgolocal.org. Go Local is a federally funded initiative to link users of the National Library of Medicine's consumer health website MedlinePlus (www.medlineplus.gov) to health services, healthcare providers or institutions, support groups, advocacy organizations, etc., in the county or zip code of their choice. Georgia Health-Go Local is a collaborative project of Georgia's four medical school libraries—Emory University, Medical College of Georgia, Mercer University School of Medicine, and Morehouse School of Medicine—with funding support from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, National Network of Libraries of Medicine-Southeastern/Atlantic Region, and the Georgia Public Library Service.

2009 National Science Olympiad
The countdown to Augusta State’s hosting of the National Science Olympiad for Middle and High School students begins June 1, following this year’s national competition at George Washington University. Augusta State is only the second institution in the University System to be selected to host the national competition. (The Georgia Institute of Technology hosted it in 1996.) Dr. Bill Wellnitz, biology, serves as the director of the Georgia Science Olympiad, and he is coordinating the national competition on Augusta State’s campus. The Science Olympiad is a national program with the goals of creating interest in science among K-12 students and improving the knowledge of science. Similar to the athletic model of the Olympiad that builds on teamwork, practice, competition, and recognition, the Science Olympiad involves competitions at individual middle and high schools, with winners advancing to state competitions, and those winners advancing to the national contest. Over 5,500 schools nationwide participate in the annual event.
