E. Wayne Lord receives President’s Award
Augusta, Ga. – In recognition of his support of and positive influence on gifted education policy, E. Wayne Lord, an assistant professor in the College of Education at Augusta State University, received the President’s Award from the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
“Recognition by NAGC and its president, Joyce VanTassel-Baska, of my work in state policy for gifted education is humbling. I feel that I would not have received this honor were it not for the opportunity to collaborate with the South Carolina Consortium for Gifted Education, the dedicated district gifted coordinators, and with gifted education faculty at Converse College and the College of Charleston in particular,” says Dr. Lord.
Before joining ASU’s Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education in 2006, he served seven years as the state coordinator of gifted programs in the South Carolina State Department of Education. As coordinator, Dr. Lord received a grant for more than $720,000 from the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program to support research into South Carolina’s gifted program, to develop additional performance based assessments for identification, and to establish an infrastructure for continuous leadership development in gifted education for the state.
The NAGC is an organization that addresses the unique needs of children and youth with demonstrated or potential gifts and talents.
An alumnus of Augusta State, Dr. Lord received a master’s in music education, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees from the University of South Carolina.
